Congratulations Entry #19!! Brandie, I’ll be emailing you soon. Enjoy your Stay at the Ottawa Marriott! Thanks everyone for your kind words and for the donations for Do It For Dad
On Sunday, June 19th, we’ve decided to do something different for Father’s Day. This year, in particular, Father’s Day has a much greater meaning. We are celebrating Andy’s recovery from cancer treatment and the fact that our children get to spend this Father’s Day, and many many Father’s Days in the future.
We decided to participate in the Do It For Dad walk to help raise money for men’s cancers and the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation.
I am usually terrible at fundraising for these kinds of things to be honest, asking for money is such a tricky thing! But this year, because of everything we’ve been through and because of how important raising money for cancer research and treatment is, I am feeling a bit more comfortable asking for help.
Because that donation you make? It doesn’t just go to a non-profit to do random work. It goes to the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation to help purchase high tech equipment to do important surgeries – some of which Andy almost had to have.
Luckily, the very awesome Ottawa Marriott is helping me out. They have donated for a giveaway, one night’s stay* in a Deluxe Room and breakfast for two (or for two adults and two children, depending on who will be in the room!
You can win it! Whether you live in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Windsor, any where in between or out of province and plan on coming to Ottawa, this is a great package.
Insert a round of applause for the Ottawa Marriott!!
How can you win?
Simply leave a comment below!** Any comment will do
BUT want an extra entry? I would love your support:
In addition to the comment below, for each $10 donation you give you get an extra entry ($50 = 5 extra entries!)
To donate: Follow this link and donate online. In the comments, if you like leave a message. Andy and I will gladly read them all.
Even more importantly, beyond the awesome chance to win, I want to personally thank you. Not only for any support that you may be able to give, but because your donation can make a difference. And unfortunately, I’ve learned that first hand.
The giveaway ends June 17 at midnight (a perfect chance to give your husband a getaway for Father’s Day!)
Thanks again Ottawa Marriott for your support.
*Stay information will be arranged on Monday, June 2o. Dates are subject to availability
**No donation necessary, a comment, 1 per person, will enter you. Extra entries are optional
You and Andy and your kids inspire ms to be a better person. Thank you for sharing this journey

As we were talking about yesterday, having these words, cancer, radiation, chemo, have become words in our every day vocabulary. Doing our walks, our relays will ensure that one day, no one will ever have to utter these words.
You’re an inspiration Becky! I will make a donation momentarily!

It is sad to see how cancer can change the lives of someone who has cancer but also of those around them. I think everyone knows someone who has/had cancer. We all want cancer to be cured and raising money like this, it will one day happen.

What an amazing giveaway! I’d love to take my kids to the hotel for a night – they’re so giddy in hotels!
I think Andy is a true survivor, and you have been such an amazing example of strength through it all. Truly, inspiring, you know, Rebecca.

Rebecca, this is awesome, what you’re doing. I will try to dig deep (into the rabbit ears of my pockets) and donate before the 19th (though not from my phone.) You should never feel bad about asking for help when it’s for a good cause!!

I’m so happy for you that you are doing this meaningful walk. I did a 545-mile bike ride fundraiser in 2008 (when my kids were preschool and Kindergarten) and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I know this isn’t exactly the same thing, but I’m always inspired by moms doing these events. It’s hard enough to stay on top of day-to-day life, so this is great that you are taking this on! If I win the overnight, I will give it back to you since I live in Michigan!

So happy your family gets to celebrate Father’s Day this year and many more! Hope you have the opportunity to getaway as well as the winner.

Having lost a parent to cancer at a very young age I appreciate each & every day with my kids. Cheers to your family! This is a life experience that will shape who they are in a positive way. Yes, you have to find the positive even in something so dark.

I’ve been following your tweets tonight – it sounds like you’re having lots of fun. I’m starting to wonder if we should do the same with our kids and be tourists in our own city (Ottawa). It would be fun to enjoy the hotel and not after a stressful 5 hour car ride!

Am I too late?

Yeah for the Ottawa Marriott for helping you out! It’s fabulous that your family will be doing the walk, and that you are raising awareness. The more money raised for research, the quicker they’ll find a cure. On days like today I wish I had a winning lottery ticket in hand.
