Today is a timely guest post from one of the Bit of Momsense advertisers Smart Space Organizing. Heather Burke has some great and simple tips to get us organized after the holidays and as we enter 2012.

As we move from winter solstice into longer days, we tend to take a closer look at our surroundings and take stock of our lives.
First of all, give yourself a big pat on your back; you have survived the holidays or at least so far!
Secondly, while things are still fresh in your mind, make a list of what went right this year. Did you stay on budget? You might want to attach the list to your November, 2012 paper or electronic calendar.
Some other things you might want to do:
- If you received new items such as clothes or toys, remember the one in one out rule. Donate the replacement. Drawers and closets only have so much room.
- Go through your bulletin board and organize the notes in date or importance order
- If you decorated, let go of the decorations that have really passed their best before date. Take photos of items such as child handmade items that may not last until the next year.
- Pack up decorations as to which room they are used.
- Put special occasion dishes away from prime space in your kitchen.
- Find “homes” for new items, otherwise they may become clutter.
- Update your address book
- Book any medical or dental appointments especially if you are going away for Spring Break
- Update calendar with birthdays and special events.
Most of all, enjoy the time you have with family and friends. Have a happy new year.
