Hockey is truly a Canadian sport. It seems many (most?) children in Canada grow up watching it on TV, or playing it, or dreaming about playing it.
My husband has always been a huge OHL hockey supporter. He grew up in Windsor and over many years we have watched a lot of Spitfires hockey on TV (even when they play Ottawa!).
As I’ve said before on this blog, we are really lucky to have so many family friendly activities to do in Ottawa. The Ottawa 67s have long been a large part of our community – from the game itself to giving back charitably.
I love taking kids to sporting events because it’s a perfect atmosphere for most – loud and fun with lots to do. Watching the game, walking around, taking in the sites.
The Ottawa 67s have a St. Hubert Family Zone where there is no alcohol. There is a mascot and activities during the intermission. Sounds like a fun and affordable family friendly event!

My favourite childhood memory about hockey is going to the Gloucester Rangers Junior A games every Friday night with my family. We had friends involved with the team and it was a fun family outing to look forward to every week. We now try to do that for our son by taking him to as many Sens and 67s games as we can afford, as well as Cumberland Grads and Bandits games.

I didn’t start watching hockey until I was 14, but at 15 I had season tickets to the 67′s and a jersey with my favourite player’s name and number. I got to watch them win the memorial cup from my favourite seat, and two years later I got to watch them win the OHL championships at home.
I always looked forward to Friday nights.

My favorite memory was playing on our backyard rink with my bro and our friends. Our rink had a tree in the middle of it, so we always had to keep our head up!

My dad only had daughters but we indulged him
& watched Hockey Night In Canada with him. I remember thinking it was great to stay up late, in my pjs with my bowl of popcorn, watching hockey with my dad. Sometimes my mum would join us but I seem to recall she always set up the ironing board & brought in her laundry basket when she did. Thanks for the chance to see the 67′s!

I grew up with a dad who was heavily involved in running a Junior A team out west. I loved going. The whole family would go and then when I was older it was just me & my dad (such awesome bonding time). He taught me so much about sportsmanlike beahviour, leadership & more from the way he dealt with the players, the parents and the fans. I usually ended up selling the 50/50 tickets each game!

I loved skating on the backyard rink my grandpa and oncle would make for us. I enjoyed it so much we make a backyard rink for my kids now. Even with the bumpy ice surface nothing beats an evening game of hockey in the yard!

My childhood memory was learning to skate on the canal. Would love to bring my 2 boys to their first 67s game!

My favorite winter memory was learning to downhill ski with my friends as a teen. Lots of fun memories of falling, rolling down hills etc. I was never any good…but had lots of fun trying.

my fave childhood memory is spending every day at the skatin rink. Between my skating & brothers hockey we were always there. Also love our full size rink with boards that we had at home!
