It’s no surprise that I am happy to see 2010 come to an end. The end of the year was a stressful time for us and the new year brings hope and optimism. However, 2010 wasn’t a complete loss. We had some great family time together, my parents moved home, my sister got married and so on.
But 2011 is here and we are more than happy to try and leave the stress behind us. Andy is feeling better and this month we’ll have test results to see if the chemo cured his cancer. Yes, we’re talking potential cure!
I do like to set goals for me though, some I waffle on as the year goes on, and some, as 2010 proved, just fall off the list when new priorities arise. It was hit and miss but there were learning opportunities and surprises along the way.
Knowing that things change within 12 months, I still want to set a plan – both personally and professionally. Here are my personal goals for 2011:
1-Take a class (not sure what yet! maybe cooking)
2-Keep the house better organized. Sigh. I have to try and write it.
3-Send random thank yous. I’ve been blessed with wonderful friends and family. I need those around me to know that I know how lucky I am.
4-Meet more people in real life – take the great friendships online and make them more personal.
5-Tell myself I can do it – even when I think I can’t. Sometimes my own self conciousness prevents me from trying something new or accepting accolades. I also need to push through failures – learn from them but move on.
6-Go to the gym. Stop laughing. I know I’m not a ‘gym’ person, but while I try to eat healthy it’s time I realize that I need to be doing more exercise than just playing with the kids. I even have a gym membership! I’ll use it.
7-Continue to spend time with the family. Connect with them and reaffirm that we are all better when we’re together.
I also have some professional goals that I will post another day.
What are your goals? Are your personal and professional ones linked?
I hope 2011 is an amazing and healthy year for you and your family, Rebecca. You handled everything this year with such grace and your positive attitude is amazing! I loved this: “Connect with them and reaffirm that we are all better when we’re together.” Brought a tear to my eye! All the best!
Great list! I tried to keep my ‘resolutions’ realistic, attainable, and non-guilt inducing this year. One of mine is to read more ‘classic’ literature. I am going to try and read 2 off of that 100 Top Books – how many have YOU read? Also – I tried to opt for resolutions that did not include any gym/weight loss/nutrition exercise goals.
Rebecca, I have no doubt you will achieve your goals. You are one of the strongest, most determined young woman I know. Looking forward to reading about your professional goals and praying for wonderful news with the latest tests results.
These are great goals! I’m with you on many of them – I wish I could see people more often ‘in real life’. That being said, I think it’s been far too long sine WE’VE had a playdate, so what do you say?
Also if you’d be interested in taking a cooking class together, I’d totally join you!
Thanks everyone!
Vicky, I completely agree – wayyyy too long. We finally have a more ‘normal’ schedule so let’s plan something.
And yay for cooking class!!
