I have stated for years that I wanted to switch my make up from questionable, chemical-laden products to eco-friendly, natural ones. I have switched our cleaners and our soaps and my face/body creams, and yet, make up is late to the game. This week I set out to head to terra20 to change that.
So what’s taken me so long? I’m not sure. I think it’s partly because I was more focused on making sure the family has done the switching we need, partly because my make up use has drastically decreased and partly because I was worried about cost (which, as it turns out, isn’t a concern any more! You’ll find out why below.)
But my primary reason for wanting to switch is the same reason I wanted to switch cleaners and lotions and soaps. I want what goes on my body to be natural, and without chemicals as much as possible.
Tip! For more information read this fantastic terra20 blog post about safe cosmetics!
With this in mind, I knew it was time that I got my act together and made the final switches. I already had some mineral powder and a concealer and my face cream is a natural SPF product. My lotion is absolutely one of my most favourite scents I’ve discovered (a find from terra20 many months back). But what about my make up essentials? What was on that list? I figured I needed to replace the following:
Mascara
Eyeshadow
Foundation
Lip Gloss
If I got rid of all my make up, I would still always have to have lip gloss around. It’s a must. Even when we went to PEI, the only make up I took for two weeks was my face cream and lip gloss. That’s it.
Yesterday I went to terra20 with the intention of replacing those four major staples in my make up bag. I am embarrassed to tell you how old my current eye shadow is, not that the other items were much better.
terra20 also prides themselves on making sure the products they carry don’t contain harmful chemicals (see their list of 15 ‘baseline banned’ chemicals that they have created), offer a variety that are vegan and cruelty free.
Additionally, until September 30, you save $20 when you spend $50!! My total bill was $65 after that coupon! $65!! For four brand new items, replacing my entire make up bag.
I mentioned earlier that cost was a factor. Here’s where I was most pleasantly surprised. I’ve been to terra20 plenty of times to know that they have a huge beauty section, so it was no surprise to me to find oodles of different products available, at different price points. This was the most pleasant part. I didn’t have to buy a $20 lip gloss (although I almost did because some were gorgeous), but I could buy a wonderful $9 one. The coupon helped as well!
Colours in products were endless too. You could get a single eyeshadow in almost every colour, or a combo pack that had more than one colour option, but still matched. I could have spent hours just selecting products.
So what did I buy?
Pure Anada Mascara, SANTE Rose eyeshadow trio, Pure Anada tinted moisturizer, Love and Toast Lip Glaze (in Prep School colour)
That’s a lot of product for what came to $65 with taxes (thanks to the coupon). But these items will last me quite a while!
I’m already in love with the lip gloss, which like I said is crucial for me. I’ll be heading to get some more I’m sure.
Have you thought about making a cosmetic switch? Now is the time at terra20! Don’t forget your Coupon from terra20 to save on cosmetics! It Ends September 30!
This is great to know. I’m heading there soon for mascara and lipgloss – the last two items I need to replace.
it took me forever to find lip gloss, only because it was hard to narrow down choices!! I went with a soft, almost not their colour, but need a deeper one later I think. The mascara I’ve been wearing all day – so far, so good!
I’m a huge fan of Pure Anada but haven’t tried their mascara yet. Love the choices you made!
So far, I am really really happy – especially so with the tinted moisturizer!
