I’ve written before on this blog how much my kids love to do arts and crafts. In fact, many blog posts are dedicated to crafting activities. And while I can make some fun items out of markers and coffee filters, a craft kit makes planning arts and craft time so much easier.
Blog advertiser Tag Along Toys has oodles and oodles of craft kit options. There are different brands to choose from, and plenty of fun ideas to build on. What I love about crafts is that they make a perfect birthday or holiday gift, are wonderful to have at the ready for rainy days, are well priced and are gender neutral.
A quick visit in Tag Along Toys demonstrates the selection to choose from. You will find finger paints and simple sticker activities for preschoolers and younger children, but there are also a wide range of sophisticated arts and craft options for older kids as well. Djeco is a company that Tag Along Toys carries and it’s clear why it’s such a popular brand. Djeco is taking arts and crafts to a completely different level with artful designs and images for a more mature crafting palette.
There are many beautiful products (that I think will be making an appearance under many Christmas trees in my family this year!) and each product seems to feed a different talent or interest. Whether it’s sketching, or stickers, or colouring or function, I was impressed with the selection.
Patti at Tag Along Toys knows my kids fairly well now and as part of this giveaway we decided to do a review of some of the craft options. When we go to the store she already had some crafts in mind for each of my kids, and her selections were spot on for what they would like (side note: The staff at Tag Along is excellent for helping to find gifts if you aren’t sure!)
She had suggested a Djeco parachute making activity for my son (almost 7 years old). Well priced at $9.99, the kit makes up to 6 parachuters (a birthday party craft perhaps?!). While the instructions were lengthy, and my son needed assistance, we happily worked together to make a very cool, very fun, parachuting dude to drop down the stairs.
My daughter (aged 4.5), the girl with multiple interests, came home with a very cool, easily gifted, craft set to make her own headbands. Priced at $19.99, this again is a really great gift, and since there are 10 headbands that can be made, it would also make for a really great ‘do-it-yourself’ gift. That’s actually what my daughter did with her first one. She designed and made a headband for a little friend of hers for her birthday.
Then she wanted to make her own and although she couldn’t assemble all the pieces like the bows and ribbons by herself, she still had full control over the design and I happily assisted her in executing it. She’s since worn her new headband to school many times!
We sometimes forget how much fun making something with our hands can be. These activities took a good chunk of time out of our afternoon (many since my daughter is still crafting headbands and my son still has more parachute guys to put together!) and it was fun to do them together.
