I am really excited to check out the Billings Estate National Historic Site Christmas tea in the upcoming weeks. From what I understand, reservations have been filling up. If you are interested, definitely call to see if there is still space!
In the meantime, if you are looking to host your own historical Christmas tea, I have a few tips and ideas for you!
1) Tea cups (of course)
Naturally, you need to use tea cups for a Christmas tea. Even if Christmas tea cups aren’t available, search grandma’s cupboard or check out second hand shops for some new-to-you finds.
2) Serving the tea
I have a variety of tea pots for use around here. You’d think I hosted tea time all the time. I don’t, but I do love having the ability to individually offer a different kind of tea to guests. If you don’t already have a tea pot (or more) for serving, again, ask to borrow one from a tea-loving family member or score one at a shop. This time of year is an excellent time to try some holiday blends and get adventurous! Mint is my current favourite for the winter.
3) Mini all the things!
Tea service food is savoury and sweet, and is in mini, bite-sized form. Crustless sandwiches, tarts and small pieces of loaf cake work well. Take a Christmas twist by using gingerbread loaf, cranberry shortbread cookies, turkey sandwiches and savoury mini meat pies.
4) Serving the food
More dishes, I know. I’ve written about my favourite folding serving tray before that I am in love with, but any tiered server is ideal for tea service. When all else fails, just put the mini bites on pretty holiday plates and serve because ultimately, the tea is about gathering people together, not the details.
5) Invite the guests, and enjoy!
No matter what, this is the most important part! The tea may be an excuse for a few friends or family members to get together and that’s ok! Just have fun with it.
Are you a fan of tea time? Would you consider hosting a Christmas tea?

Love this. I think I will hold a tea party for the grand-girls while they are here. We have a lovely little tea shop in Perth (The Crossroads Tea Room) I took my oldest grand-daughter there this summer for her first *tea.* She really enjoyed it so I know they will love having a Christmas Tea Party. Thank you 🙂
