If there is one thing that I recognize during the holidays, it’s that we are a house of plenty. We are very blessed to have comfortable, warm shelter, plenty of foods overflowing in our cupboards and gifts under the tree for the kids. Most importantly, we have each other and this doesn’t go unnoticed.
It’s why at this time of the year it’s also important for those of us with so much to find a way to give back. We talk to the kids year round about giving – whether it’s with donations of monetary dollars, items that could benefit others like used clothing and food, or giving our time, it’s an ongoing conversation.
During the holidays, we support a few local causes with food and toy donations. But there are so many ways to give back that the possibilities are endless.
Value Village, an organization we donate items to through the Canadian Diabetes Association (because they receive donations from our contributions), is hosting a giveaway to encourage people to share how they are giving back this time of year.
Firstly, to donate to your local Value Village and help support a community organization in your area, visit the website to find out who to call for pick up times. I’m fortunate because now that I’ve donated, I’m on their call list and every couple of months I get a pick up in my area and when possible, I spend time sorting through clothes that no longer fit any of us, old winter jackets and so on to donate.

This holiday season, three lucky givers will have the chance to win when they share how they’re #GiftingBack to their community during the holidays. Just show how you give back to your community by sharing a photo, a story or both on the “Gifting Back” contest tab located on the Value Village Facebook page, or by using the hashtag #GiftingBack on Instagram or Twitter by January 3rd for the chance to win a $1,000 Visa Gift Card. To spread the cheer event further, Value Village will donate $1,000 to the nonprofit of your choice!
Two runners up will receive $500 Visa gift cards and Value Village will donate $500 to the charity of their choice.
Visit the Facebook page to check out the tab to see current entries, or read the stories of how others are giving back. You may be inspired!
Plus, be sure to enter how you are giving back this season to be entered to win.
Disclosure: This post is part of my partnership with Value Village, however, I’ve been a long time donor to our local VV in support of the Canadian Diabetes Association and all opinions are my own.
