I am so excited! We are going to tea on Sunday at the Billings Estate National Historic Site! I can’t wait for us to munch on little bites of food and sip tea and just hang out as a family – yes, the kids are coming. I hope they love it as much as we do!
Meanwhile, Friday night we are planning to check out the lights at the Cumberland Village Heritage Museum. Have you been before? Over 30,000 lights shining in the village. It’s another family affair, even my parents are coming with us. This city is alive with festivities this time of year, and to be honest, we haven’t always taken part in them. But now that the kids are older (read: going to bed later) it’s so much easier to do the evening events. I think this one will be a hit. I’ll post pictures and share more next week on the blog!
In addition, the Nepean Museum (you can read about how much I enjoyed my visit here) is hosting a Noël at Nepean event on Sunday, December 14 where the family can make gingerbread houses!
We decorated our gingerbread house yesterday. It’s always one of our #25DaysofChristmas activities, even though I forgot to add it to the list this year! We moved around some things and made sure it showed up. The kids were quick to remind me that we needed to do it. We’ve done it before, therefore, we had to do it again. There are few traditions that we can stop once the kids have done them.
Is it like that in your house? They come by it honestly. I’m like that too. I don’t like change, and tradition makes me happy. But the kids tend to be “remember when we do that thing? We always wear blue. So we have to wear blue!” This may be an exaggeration, but only barely.
Traditions like our activity calendar, Elf on the Shelf, the opening of one Christmas Eve present – these are all traditions that make us happy. I suspect after our weekend of Christmas lights and tea, there may be some new traditions brewing.
Do you have traditions that you especially love this time of year? Are there any you are thinking of starting?
