The Fall is a busy time for families, and I know a lot of time is spent with extra curricular activities.
We’ve been experiencing a completely new schedule with competitive baseball this Fall and my son is loving it (in truth, we are all enjoying the extra, concentrated time together but, ooph! Managing these new calendars can be tough!)
Add in the fact that my kids have joined teams at school and work has been busy, and I have to admit, it’s been quite the hectic start to the Fall!
However, I am seeing the benefits for the kids. They have to manage their homework time better (although trust me, there are still arguments about this!), they are sleeping really well, and getting plenty of exercise.
If you are thinking that it’s time for your kids to find a new program this Fall, the City of Ottawa offers plenty of opportunities. I’ve gathered up a few classes that might be of interest – and some of them are surprising.
What I love about these programs is that they aren’t competitive, and they give our kids the chance to try something new, or different, in a welcoming environment with other kids their age. They may discover a new passion!
Over the years, my kids have done soccer, swimming lessons, arts classes, multi-sports, ballet and more. I love being able to have so many opportunities in the City.
Here are some recreation programs happening this Fall in Ottawa:
The Science of Movie Making
Kids will learn about digital movie making and green screen magic!
Dinosaur Discovery
In Greely, kids ages 6-9 can enjoy a weekly dinosaur themed program. They’ll dig for fossils, create crafts and more!
Science Quests
Children aged 4-5 can enjoy science experiments! This is only a four week program which makes it easier to fit into many schedules. (It’s offered in various locations, see the full recreation guide)
Cook Me a Story
For children aged 3-5, this session in Metcalfe combines cooking and storytelling. I love the sound of that!
Pottery: Hand building
I know how much kids love working with their hands and building sculptures in this class sounds like a wonderfully creative outlet!
P.S. Did you know the City of Ottawa offers after school programming? Here’s more information.
