Today’s Mommy Monday, in honour of yesterday being Father’s Day, is actually a Daddy Monday!
Search the web and you can find a lot of dad bloggers – not just men who are also dad’s and blog, but men who specifically blog about parenting. Some of the most interesting blogs/tweets I read are from dads. And while I blog from a very specific mom point of view (because, well, I’m a mom!) I appreciate having different opinions and insight on a variety of parenting topics from different parents. I also love it when I hear more and more dads are staying at home or taking parental leave (but I’m biased because my husband is on leave).
I stumbled onto @vancouverdad via Twitter and started reading his blog that he writes for the Vancouver Sun “Curious Dad” (formerly “Vancouver Dad”). While sometimes he writes about his own life as an at-home parent,he often tackles complex and important, topics such as co-sleeping, dads vs moms and infant medication. His writing is highlights interesting, timely, well-researched parenting topics that sometimes I agree with and other times generates quite the spark of debate among the comments. I love that. Currently, his blog gig is for the Vancouver Sun but we all should hope that Curious Dad continues to either write for us (and himself) after his leave is up, or that the Vancouver Sun stays smart and ensures he keeps writing for them. Because I will keep reading.
While I’m not sure if they are dads, you should also check out Family Anatomy (@familyanatomy). Dr. Brian Macdonald and Dr. Giuseppe Spezzano are psychologists that highlight family/youth/children health topics on their website and discuss in detail via online podcasts. Always informative, what’s nice is that their topics are sincerely thought-provoking but understandable in a non-clinical way.
Another great writer is Joshua Tusin who writes for Our Kids Net. He offers insight and commentary on children and education – whether it be about the recent Ontario consideration for full day kindergarten or physical activity for students, his posts are great reads.
Also, for more awesome dads who blog, check out A Very Good Year’s feature interviews with online dads.
Happy Father’s Day to these smart, cool dads. We all are happy you are offering insight into parent blogging.
