My son lost his teeth a bit later than some of his friends. His first one came out around the time of his 7th birthday. Then another a month after. Then he’s lost three since the new year. Sure, one came out with some accidental encouragement from a road hockey ball, but it would have eventually anyway.
I know that there’s chatter in my Facebook and Twitter streams from fellow moms when the teeth start to fall out. Mostly, it’s calls for assistance in remember that the tooth fairy needs to show up. I’ve send messages to friends before asking just that.
However, here’s the secret in our house: The Tooth Fairy isn’t a she, it’s a he.
Daddy is the one taking care of teeth so far for our son. I’ve been out at events when the Fairy is supposed to make an appearance, or gone to be first (or later) than him. But he has been the only one to switch out the tooth for coin so far.
I am the loose-tooth helper-outer. I can watch and wiggle them, help pull when they are hanging there and have no problems with that. My husband barely can look in his mouth when he has a loose tooth. But, when it comes to the really important part – making the magic – that’s all him.
He does a marvelous job I will say. He’s stealth and quiet and has never once come close to forgetting (which, left up to me alone would likely have happened by now.)
So well done Mr. Tooth Fairy. You are working hard and doing a great job! This family appreciates that. Also, have fun with your collection of baby teeth in your top dresser drawer. What are we going to do with those anyway?!!
Who’s the Tooth Fairy in your house? Have you forgotten before? What are you doing with the teeth?
