I know, I know, it’s a cult classic, but guess what? I had never seen The Nightmare Before Christmas. I was thirteen when it came out, so it should have completely appealed to my brooding teenage self. It was a Disney movie, about two holidays that I loved. How did I never watch it? No idea.
But we finally did. And loved it. It was a fun, spooky but sweet movie experience. It was short and the music was completely stand out. What is This and This is Halloween are etched in my brain forever.
I’m glad that Netflix has it available, otherwise I likely would never have sat down to watch it. There are other Halloween themed flicks that you and your family can watch together (we LOVE Hotel Transylvania!) and as we head into Halloween weekend, it is the perfect time to cuddle up and watch a movie. Head over to find the best one for your family!
So tell me – am I the only one who just joined in on The Nightmare Before Christmas wagon?

Tomorrow is the big day! Well, the big day if you are hosting or doing something for Halloween. Are your kids excited? I loved seeing all of the little ghouls, princesses and characters around the school yard this morning!
If you are hosting company tomorrow or heading somewhere for a Halloween get together, you’ll want to bring some treats. Don’t worry if you are planning it last minute. Check out the Kraft Canada Halloween Party Centre for ideas, or try one of my easy skull pretzel bites below!
Happy Halloween!
Ingredients:
1/2 package Baker’s White Chocolate
Rounded pretzels
Mini chocolate chips
Directions:
In a double burner or microwave, melt and stir the chocolate.
Place pretzels (about 10) on a tray lined with wax paper.
Drizzle white chocolate over the pretzel, not fully coating it. Place chocolate chip eyes on top.
Put the tray in the freezer to firm everything up. Enjoy!

Every Halloween, my family (my parents, siblings and their kids) come to our house for a little Halloween supper and some trick or treating. It’s been a tradition since we moved into this house, and it’s always a blast.
I put out snacks, we visit, we help the kids get dressed, and I have stickers and activities available for the kids. Because Halloween is on a Saturday this year, we get to spend a little more time together too. That’s why I wanted a couple more fun activities so I’ve designed a DIY Photo Booth!
Using a Fall coloured table cloth, I decided the best location was in front of my patio door. We won’t be going outside to the backyard that night, so it’s a perfect spot.
I draped the table cloth over my curtains (a black or orange cloth would be great too) and embellished it with some Fall sparkly mesh that was on clearance at Michael’s.
Then, I’ve filled a basket with masks, wigs and other items from our dress up bin. This way, kids and adults can all get in on the fun!
We can use the backdrop to take pictures of the kids before trick or treating too!
It’s easy to set up and because everyone has their own phone with camera on them, anyone can take pictures throughout the night!!
It’s sure to be a fun time!
Happy Halloween!
I have a Super Mario and a good Witch this year in the house. They are both adorable. The candy is ready (and being eaten, possibly as I type this) and family is coming for our annual get together and trick or treat fun.
Please remember on your way out or home tonight there are a lot of children on the streets, please drive slowly and safely.
Here are a few random Halloween thoughts this year.
The house is ready:
Don’t carve your pumpkins too early (although they do end up looking spookier):
Notice the pumpkin baskets? They are full of chocolate and candy. Notice the stool? A certain toddler was being resourceful:
Looking for a fun lunch idea? ‘Carve’ Jack-o-Lanterns into a peanut butter (or other) sandwich. I used a mug for the round cookie cutter, Goldfish crackers for the orange and a broccoli top.
Happy Halloween Everyone!
Let’s be honest. When our kids go trick or treating, and come home with a pumpkin full of goodies (or ‘loot’), we are excited too.
We host Halloween with my siblings typically, so it ends up being a bunch of adults reminiscing about our favourite candy growing up, what we like, how we can’t believe they still have those taffy kisses things and we make trades.
Ohhh, spot that Rolo? I’m grabbing it while my brother scores something else. I’m sure by now my kids are wondering why their parents, aunts and uncles are rummaging through their treats. But we can’t help ourselves.
I love Rockets, and it’s a bonus if I score SweeTarts. I always want the chocolate, and try to keep the simple ones for the kids. I do not like Candy corn (although, does anyone?) and hard candy is like something from the bottom of my purse (although, my children are big fans of suckers).
Chips have a hierarchy – Doritos or a flavoured kind are most popular, the regular ones are left for the kids.
And if there is a full sized chocolate bar, it’s a fight.
On Halloween night, we are happy to spend time as a family, see the cute kids in costumes and spend some quality time together with aunts, uncles and grandparents. It’s an excuse to get together.
And score some candy, without dressing up.
Because, the house takes 30% (at least). Didn’t you know?
How about you? What favourites are you looking for on Halloween night?
Easy to make, but fun to do – check out these creepy and crawly Halloween spiders! (And for more activities, visit the Activity page!)
Materials you’ll need:
1. Cut out a circle from the paper plate (if old enough, have your child do the cutting)
2- Have your child paint the plate
3-Stick on Googly eyes and legs with pipe cleaners – let the legs dry very well!
(seriously, how creepy is this one? This was my daughter’s. It’s spooky)
Learning skills: Counting, using scissors, French
Here’s an easy activity to do with all ages. For my toddler, I did the cutting (she tried a bit) while she did the gluing. For my almost 5 year old, he did the cutting (which is also why there are fewer ghosts – cutting is not his favourite thing!) and I helped him with his writing.
I had my son count in French (actually, that was his idea) but being super smart, I thought I’d write out his numbers too. Then realized later that I spelled the number ‘one’ in French wrong (it’s not UNE it’s UN). So, Andy and I have decided Andy will take more of a lead on the French (ha!)
Enjoy!!
1- Give each child a piece of construction paper (my daughter insisted on pink instead of Halloween orange!)
2-For younger children, cut out the ghosts for them. For older children, have them cut the ghosts.
3-Glue the ghosts anywhere on the page.
4-Using sticky backed foam (or felt, or black markers) add the eyes on the ghosts.
5-Count (in any language!) the number of ghosts you have.
(BUT be sure you are teaching your children the correct spelling of words! 😉
To go along with this activity, we also have the best Halloween Counting book – this is a favourite each year!
