Throw Back Thursdays with the City of Ottawa Museums

I’m going to try something a little different for the next few months on the blog with regards to Throw Back Thursdays.  I’m going to throw WAY back in partnership with the City of Ottawa and their Museums!  I’ve excited to have partnered with the City of Ottawa to research, visit and share information about some of our local museums.

Our family is no stranger to museums and I’ve written about visits to the Cumberland Heritage Village Museum and Billings Estate National Historic Site before.  Now, I’m going to be checking out places we haven’t been, learning more about our city and sharing exciting events with you!

Each Thursday, I will bring you a snippet of info from one of the museums – either about upcoming events, or tales from our own family stop-ins.  I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I think I will! It will be fun to explore the museums with the kids, but also sharpen my history degree a bit.

I’ll be writing about the following locations:

Billings Estate National Historic Site

Cumberland Heritage Village Museum

Pinhey’s Point Historic Site

Nepean Museum

Fairfields Heritage House

Visit the City of Ottawa website to check out the upcoming events, or check back here on Thursdays to see what’s new!

First on our list to visit is the War Craft Exhibit at the Nepean Museum. Here’s some information from the City:

To mark the 100th anniversary of Canada’s entry into the First World War, War Craft: Art and Memorabilia of the Great War, showcases artefacts from the collection of postal-military historian C.R. McGuire.

The exhibition provides insight into an often overlooked product of the Great War: art and craft. Frequently created by soldiers themselves, the artworks and memorabilia produced reflect the materials available, the events lived, and the people left behind. The exhibition is a fascinating introduction to “trench art” produced during this conflict.

Admission to this special exhibition is by donation.

Just a note that the museums are all closed for Remembrance Day on November 11.

Stay tuned for more posts and information coming your way!
