Want to help me virtually pedal my way across the country? You can! And the best part is, it’s for a great cause. Read more to find out how!
The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program raises money to help more kids across Canada get active and into organized sports.
One in three Canadian families cannot afford to enrol their kids in organized sports and physical activity (Vision Critical, 2011) which means many kids are missing out on the benefits that come with organized play. Canadian Tire Jumpstart is a nationally registered charity dedicated to removing financial barriers so kids across Canada have the opportunity to get off the sidelines and into the game.

How does this impact my family? As I’ve written about many times on this blog, we love playing sports and getting active as a family. The kids have played baseball, signed up for soccer, gymnastics and more. We didn’t have to think much about the registration. We paid the fee and the kids had fun. However, that’s not the case for many, and we realize how fortunate we are. We also know how special organized fun can be for the kids. I’ve written about why we feel it’s an important part of their lives each year. In fact, one year for my son’s birthday we donated to the Jumpstart program on behalf of him!
This month, Jumpstart is working hard with the Pedal for Kids fundraiser. This challenge is a 5-day, 500 KM bike ride from Ottawa to Quebec City (with stops along the way). Cyclists raise money to help support their efforts – and more children can get off the sidelines and into the game (as Jumpstart likes to say!)
PLUS there is a fun virtual component. You can help push MY bike across the country (I’m their representing PEI, where my heart is still sitting on the beach) simply by clicking on my bike and entering the Pedal for Kids Contest. There are fantastic prizes to be one, including 10 Schwinn Bicycles, and you can enter each day.
Since 2005, Jumpstart has distributed millions of dollars across Canada to help support hundreds of thousands of children get involved in organized play. This includes every province and territory. Prince Edward Island has seen $420,000 distributed to 3,250 children. That’s no small number for Canada’s tiniest province!
Now we all can help!

Thank you for your support and for helping more children participate in organized play in Canada.
Who’s ready? Get me biking! 😉 Thank you!
