For months now,we’ve been talking ourselves into a Smartphone.
It’s not that we don’t want one. Oh no, trust me, we’d love one. It’s that we are at times far too practical for our own good. ‘Why do we need it’ would be the starting question, when secretly both of us were crying ‘I wanttttt one!!’.
Finally, we decided it was time. We have plain, boring phones with no data plan. We started the search because ultimately, it came down to this choice: Blackberry or iPhone.
There are pros and cons to each, and after Tweeting annoyingly many times I discovered that people seemed to be in one camp or the either – they LOVED their iPhone or LOVED their Blackberry, and seemed to cause rifts (kind ones at least 😉 between the two sides.
At the end of the day there is only one thing causing me hesitation with the iPhone: the keyboard. I can’t let go of the thought that I would want the feedback from the keys, the QWERTY keyboard. Could I figure out and type quickly on the touch screen (I’m assured I can).
So, I had decided on the Blackberry.
But, the sexy iPhone kept drawing me back. Listen to that sound. Look at that screen. What app is that called?
So, I’ve decided on an iPhone.
I’m assured that I’ll like the keypad, and I know that there are a thousand things I can do with it. Ultimately, I’ll just be happy to tweet on the road.
Now, there have only been 2 obstacles standing in my way: Rogers has been a complete pain (I haven’t been able to get the same answer twice about my contract, though this week it appears it may have been resolved). And there are currently no iPhones left in this city for a Rogers contract ;P
So, we wait until the new one comes out.
We’ve waited this long, what’s a while longer right? *twitch*
Which camp are you in? Blackberry or iPhone?
Niether. Get an Android device. Much better, more choice (you should be able to get one with a physical keyboard if that’s what your key requirement is) and the Android Market is great (app store). The bonus being you’re not tied to iTunes.
Thanks for the post 🙂 I think I’ve decided on the iphone but it’ll have to wait until there are ones to be found in Ottawa!
I really want an iphone, but I am still in the camp of: we don’t need it yet; there are other things we need first etc.
I’ll get there one day though! Whenever you do get yours, let me know how you like it.
I have a crap phone that I HATE. Nothing fancy or special. I would LOVE a smart phone, any smart phone. But I just can’t justify it because the number of phone calls I get and make on my cell are few to none. I just NEVER use it and it has become more of an emergency thing (you know, I’m broken down on the side of the road and need to call a tow truck kind of phone.) Oh, to be able to tweet from my phone though…so jealous of those people 😉
Love love love my iPhone! But you knew that already. 😉
Oooooh, good for you! I have an iPhone and I love it. My biggest qualm (like you) about getting one was the touch screen keyboard. I’ve found that it’s actually really easy to use and I can type about 100 times faster on it than I did my Palm Treo that I had before.
I’m also one who doesn’t use the phone much – at all. We’re talking about 2 calls a month. My smartphone for me is more about the smart and less about the phone. Mind you, I commute to work and I prefer to text on the bus than have a conversation. So, that’s why I don’t have too many calls.
There have been major issues with the iphone 4g, so I would get the 3g but avoid the 4g (lots of dropped calls due to new antenna)
I would have loved to find a 3GS but now they aren’t available – sold out almost everywhere! I am worried about the 4g glitches but hope that they won’t be as big of a deal in the end. I am still hunting the 3gs 😉
I love my iPhone. And also barely used my old phone, but it was all about the ‘smart’ stuff. I also LOVE to text now. Everyone get iphones so we can all text – I like to feel cool like that 😉
I’d get an iphone if I could afford one! I’m drooling just thinking about all the fun toys I can buy when I start working again – new camera, new laptop, new iphone…. drool drool drool.
I Will try this out! thanks for sharing!
This is such a timely post! I have an ancient cell phone and am starting to consider getting into the modern times. I have no techie knowledge and look forward to reading all the comments and opinions. I get to sit back and let you do all the leg work for me. lol Thank you 🙂
I kind of want an iphone too, but can’t justify it. Maybe when I am back at work. 🙂
Looking forward to hearing how you like it.
Um…I just found out the cost – holy moly!
2 things about the cost: if you don’t have an existing plan or smartphone, you’ll get a deal. For example, I’m hearing the new iphone will be about $200. Plus, the dataplans are about 10-$20 more expensive than existing plain plans.
The prices you see (the $700 etc) are if you don’t sign up for a contract – the contract is usually 3 years and that’s where the savings are.
Blackberry now may be launching a touch screen WITH keyboard. I am now thinking about this…
Blackberry all the way! I’ve had many models over the past 5+ years and I’ve loved everyone of them. Iphone is cool, but more for kids in my opinion. Blackberry has apps too (not as much as iphone) but really good apps, and the phone itself is just more “professional”.
