What does it look like when your almost 4 year old has very strong ideas about what they want to wear and it happens to be preschool picture day? This is a girl who has insisted on wearing summer dresses in minus 30 degree weather and a wedding veil to her brother’s school drop off just last week.
So what does picture day look like?
This:
The outfit that we had chosen the night before (jeans and a cute top that even had some sparkles to it – great for pictures but she’d still be able to play after) quickly got ditched after it went on.
She decided she wanted something else, but couldn’t pin point exactly what. Instead, we played a game where I suggested 30 different pieces and she said no to every one.
Finally, buried in one of her drawers she found a pair of white, thick tights. He realization that these ‘pants with feet’ would look great meant we had something to build on.
But then I had to remind her that tights are not pants and a dress or skirt were required. Enter a parade of skirts and dresses, none of which she cared for.
We were now at about 5 minutes before we had to actually leave for school and at the time she was dressed in nothing but tights. Finally, I suggested a short sleeve dress that she usually loves to wear over the tights. I figured with her jacket she’d be fine for playtime. Her ‘Mrs. Roeper Dress’ – named after the Three’s Company landlady – is a funky pattered smock like Mrs. Roeper use to wear (and it’s adorable on her).
She loved the idea.
That went on over the tights and we were done. Until she wanted a clip for her hair. We scrambled to find one then headed out the door.
She was adorable. Just so sweet. Well put together, proud she had chosen this herself.
I was a hot, sweaty, stressed out mess.
(I should note: today she is wearing a long sleeve top and cute yoga style pants. She loves them. Apparently, she doesn’t mind her dress ‘down’/comfort days, that’s not the problem. The problem is when she gets something in her head that she wants to wear, it’s a must. Don’t even get me started on what happens if her selection of pajamas are dirty…yikes 😉
Sounds like me on a regular morning 🙂
She sounds like a really fun girl to have around. Very creative, with a sense of style! : )
my 7yo SON is like that. Morning can be an issue with him. Oh boy!
Ugh, my 2 yo daughter is going down the same path! Thank goodness for the boy, who will wear anything with an Angry Bird on it.
