This is one of those recipes that tastes better than it sounds, trust me.
It was one that I had when I was a kid and even eating it now, the tastes bring back a flood of childhood memories. This meal is truly comfort food for me – and as a bonus, it’s very inexpensive to make!
Note, if you don’t use canned salmon (I’ve found some good kinds, but it’s hard to find it in BPA free cans), bake 2 salmon pieces, let cool and flake.

Recipe: Salmon and Peas on Toast
Ingredients
6 slices of toast
1 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour
1 – 1.5 cups of milk
1 can salmon, deboned
1 can peas, drained, or 1-1.5 cups frozen peas
Pepper
Instructions
- In sauce pan, melt butter and add flour.
- Slowly pour in milk, whisking frequently,allowing the sauce to thicken
- Add salmon
- Stir in peas. Heat through
- Add pepper to taste
- Meanwhile, toast bread. Butter it.
- Serve salmon sauce on top of toast pieces.
*To make more sauce for more toast, just add a bit more flour and butter and more milk, plus some additional peas.

We grew up on this for breakfast, our kids and grandkids simply love it.
It’s simple, a little time consuming yet, totally worth it.
Yummy reminds me when my nana made Salmon and Peas..Its been some time since I’ve made it..My kids didn’t care for it the way I did.. Besides having it on toast it’s also good over crushed saltine crackers…
yeah my kids didn’t enjoy it either!
