This is my final January Friday series about travelling with the family to PEI. Have you booked a cottage yet? We’re all set for another two-week stay in August and we can’t wait.
To conclude this series I’m going to chat briefly about Charlottetown. The reason being is that you can spend a couple of days there and really enjoy yourself.
Visiting Charlottetown
The Wharf
Head to Peakes Wharf and you’ll find shopping, restaurants, COWS Ice Cream and if you want boat excursions (which we haven’t done yet) and summer entertainment. Just walking about the area is really neat since the buildings and houses are beautiful.
The History
Each year, my kids take a trip through time and head back to the Charlottetown Conference of 1864 at Founders’ Hall. Founders’ Hall tells the story about how Canada was formed and it’s quite interesting. I know this isn’t always what some kids are into, but we can’t skip over this place. My son in particular is a huge fan.
Last year we also went to Province House, the Government legistlature in PEI. There are guided tours and presentations, but we opted for a self-guided exploration. Again, history was everywhere and it was interesting to talk about the Charlottetown Conference that we learned about at Founder’s Hall and actually see the room where the meetings would have taken place.
The Arts
Confederation Centre for the Arts is home to lively entertainment and theatre. When we visited, there was a FREE noon-time song and dance performance about Canadian history. It was SO well done. We all loved it! Keep an eye out for information about performances, plays and more and be sure to take them in.
The Food
There’s no shortage of great places to eat. I mentioned Leonhard’s in my last post, but check out The Orange Lunch Box and a pizza joint called Famous Peppers.
Still want more?
Thankfully, PEI 2014 has you covered for events and more information on what’s happening this year in PEI. This year, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference.
Ready for some family fun? PEI is the place to go!
