Today is our 10th wedding anniversary.
This post will be short. We are finishing packing up to head for a quick weekend away to the Niagara region, just the two of us, to celebrate. (I’ll likely post some pics of the area on Instagram/Twitter along the way I’m sure!)
But I felt that as a huge supporter, and since at times Andy is also the Chief Finance Office and Manager of Operations for this blog, and has over the years clearly been a huge part of my blog storytelling, today deserved a mention here.
After 10 years of marriage, I can’t tell you any top secret tips or tricks on a happy marriage. We’ve had our ups and downs, just as anyone has. We’ve dealt with the ‘through sickness and health‘ part of or vows, and our family of two is now a family of four, which always changes the dynamic.
What I can say I’ve learned is the following:
Laughter is at the core of everything we do in our house. If we can’t laugh at ourselves, or with the other, we would be lost. It gets us through the hard times, and reminds us of how blessed we are in the good times.
Communication is really important, but sometimes so is silence. Sometimes when we want to say how we feel, it’s shadowed with feelings in the heat of the moment. We try to pick our battles, and discover that winning the battle doesn’t always feel as good as we thought it would, so not all are worth starting in the first place. When we do need to talk, we try to be honest and do it quickly. Don’t go to bed angry.
We make our own happiness – we shouldn’t rely on our partner to make it for us. But, if things have gone well, we have picked someone to spend our time with that constantly contributes to our happiness.
There’s no perfect formula, and we are learning something new about each other all the time, still after all these years.
So to conclude, a brief note to Andy: Thank you for a fabulous 10 years full of joy, laughter and warmth. I won’t get gushy on the blog, but I think we make a pretty fantastic team. xo
Have a great weekend dear readers – and say an extra I Love You to someone special in your life 😉
Congratulations to you both! Have a wonderful vacation!
