I’m like Garfield some days. I hate Mondays. They always show up after a weekend, and weekends usually represent fun and happiness and relaxation. Then Monday comes in like a buzz kill.
However, I also appreciate Monday. Monday is about routine and order. It’s a fresh start to a new week. And for that, I like Monday.
However, this post isn’t about Monday. We may have our differences, but for the most part, Monday and I can learn to co-exist.
It’s Thursday that I have a problem with.
Thursday sits there towards the end of the week, not yet Friday (who, let’s face it, is the cool one) and not Wednesday (‘hump day’ is a mid-week marker for many.) Thursday may have some fun on social media with Throw Back Thursday pictures, but even funny picturess of us with bad hairstyles and chubby baby cheeks can’t hide Thursday’s true colours. Thursday is there where the week is already too long, you are feeling tired, and you have to keep waiting for Friday and it’s weekend sisters – Saturday and Sunday – to arrive.
The kids are a wreck by Thursday. It’s as though a switch is flipped on Thursday mornings and they realize that the weekend is almost here, but not close enough. The activities from the previous weekend and early part of the week are catching up to them. They are tired, done with their school week and Thursday is there to goad them on. “Go ahead kids,” Thursday says, “have your 3 o’clock freak out over homework and that your mom bought the wrong crackers. I’m here for you.”
Thanks for nothing Thursday.
Listen, Thursday isn’t always all bad. There are days when Friday is a PD Day, or we have a long weekend and Thursday wears Friday’s clothes and is pretty hip and cool. And some days it forgets to be a jerk and we manage to get out of Thursday rather unscathed.
But in general, Thursday just sits there, waiting to make everyone cranky. I’m on to you, Thursday. I see you. And I’m going to be more prepared. Now leave the children alone.
Not *just* the children.
I couldn’t agree more. Since, January, Thursday has kind of been a jerkball, but there’s hope!
Last Thursday was excellent and today is sunny with blue skies (choosing to ignore the FROST advisory) so I am holding out hope that last week was the beginning of a new era. An era of a kinder, gentler Thursday. A Thursday like we have not been expecting, but a bright new, stand up and be proud not-quite-middle child of the week. Bold. Brave. Confident.
I think it can happen.
Just goes to show what lunch with some pals, a bit of hopeful news and a nice dose of sunshine can do. 😉
Spot on! Dang Thursday!
Hee! Loved this :).
If your name isn’t Friday, Saturday or Sunday, I have no time for any of you. Well, not you, you, but the actual days. You see, I didn’t mean actual people, I was trying to imply that I hate days not named that. Sooo, yeeeaahhhhhh…. Bye
I agree! I totally agree! Every Thursday I have to drag myself out of bed with the promise of only two more days and it is the weekend! Thursday is the new Wednesday! 😉
Thursdays. I tell ya 😉
