Last year when my son and husband weren’t home, I asked my then four year old if she wanted to do a mini spa at home. She was enthusiastic to participate, even if she wasn’t sure what that all meant. She hasn’t been to a real spa before.
I pretended that she had an appointment (she had to knock on the bedroom door when it was time), I dimmed the lights and I welcomed her to my spa. She lied down, I brushed her hair, offered her water with blueberries, put lotion on her hands and feet and painted her toe nails. I created a spa monster from that moment forward.
She loved it. Then her brother loved it when he discovered what he was missing out on. I have to admit that I like it – not only when it’s my turn, but also because it’s an easy, sweet way to offer some relaxation time. It’s become something they request often now.
How to set up an at-home spa
Here are a few of the ways that I create the total spa experience for the kids at home:
Select gentle products to use on the kids. Depending on what ‘services’ you are offering, you’ll need lotions and nail polish.
Use a warm cloth for a facial. Also, cucumbers briefly on their eyes are a huge hit here. Just keep an eye that nothing is irritating their delicate skin!
Be sure to massage the lotion into arms, hands, legs and feet. Those little bodies work hard when playing!
Offer your guests a refreshing beverage. We usually have water infused with a berry or lemon.
Dim the lights.
Hair brushing feels great!
Make sure they make their appointment and that you are ready to greet them when they show up.
Most importantly, have fun!!
This is adorable Becky!!!
Aw, I love this idea! Am putting it on our Summer of Awesome list for sure – thanks!
