I have such respect for Mom’s who are also entrepreneurs. Recent reports suggest that over 1/3 of the self-employed in Canada were women, a number that continues to increase. Wow!
The balance between work and life is a difficult struggle for most moms, but to start ones own business is a huge undertaking – doing it with small children at home means a greater need to balance time. I suspect that a lot of work is done when the kids are sleeping, with the support of family or a spouse, and spare time becomes business time.
I have ideas for businesses, sure. But I must not have a strong enough ability to put it all together like some women do. Hopefully that will change, but it’s a very slow process to go from idea to fruition.
That’s why this week’s Mommy Monday, a feature I’ve started to highlight mom’s who blog or run businesses, is dedicated to some mompreneurs. Each week I pick 2 or 3 to highlight, based on things that impress me and that might be of interest to you. In this case, these moms started some great sites with great products.
Check out their sites, and when you can support those fellow mommies, because that makes a lot of Momsense!
Mommy Monday Highlights:
Nayla Natural Care is an online store offering natural products for you and your family. From bamboo nursing pads to vegan banana toothpaste, there’s a little something for everyone looking to switch their family products to natural, non-toxic ones. In particular, I’m especially pleased to see non-toxic sunscreen and deet-free bug repellant. Have questions about the products? Email Gwen and she’s super friendly in answering back!
During this time of economic slow down, people are really focusing on being frugal and spending less, or at least spending smart. Consignment stores have become really popular it seems, and as parents we know that children’s clothing second-hand can look brand new because they grow out of it so fast. I love hunting for the best deal, and there are some to be had at Daisy Blue,an online consignment shop that offers gently used, name brand clothing for kids and maternity wear, plus some new items like cute Clippopotamus soother and bib clips. There’s some great deals on footwear, including sandals – summer is around the corner after all! Isn’t it great when you can save money and not even change out of your pajamas? Get shopping!
My hats off to all you small-business owners who are also moms. What great work you do!
