My husband and I are (finally) putting in gardens in the backyard. A Landscaper is adding patio stone, flowers, trees and we are creating a little oasis.
My son loves gardens. He loves the dirt. He loves to dig. And he loves looking at plants and flowers (always has since he was a baby). We are really looking forward to him helping in the vegetable garden, learning about the plants that we have, finding worms and getting involved.
For the month of June, keeping in mind the garden was coming in July, we focused most of our crafts and activity time on the theme of gardens. We talked about what we find in a garden and did crafts to add to our summer wall.
Here’s the final result:
So what might we find in our new garden:
Flowers of course. (this is a variation of a craft by Allie at No Time For Flash Cards)
The other flowers are made from heart shapes or the petals are from tracing his hands and cutting them out.
Spiders (apparently, we are going to have giant spiders in our garden)
Possibly a snake (let’s hope not, but we did one anyway)
Bees (we used felt for wings and fuzzy pipe cleaners for the yellow)
Butterflies
And hopefully lots of birds! (I cut out bird body templates and we added feathers, beak, feet and eyes. My son also loves birds and we have bird books to talk about different kinds etc)
