Every year, one of my most fun Christmas shopping activities is shopping for the Stockings. There is some really cute/fun/neat items to be found that fit in the stocking. Sometimes it’s practical (face wash for my husband, utensils for the kids), sometimes it’s useless but I know will be fun (the wind up, hopping frog I got my son this year) and sometimes it’s just tradition (chocolate, a book or magazine).
Growing up, our stockings were the best. Laura Secord chocolate, lip balm (remember Lip Smackers?!), People magazine, a CD, or, early on a cassette (New Kids On the Block Christmas tape and the Phantom of the Opera tape were my favs. I was a weird child).
The toe always had a clementine (something I don’t continue with my children yet. And that I never ate as a kid. Also, how is it that at the age of 6 when I still believed in Santa, I didn’t put together the clementine in my stocking and the crate sitting in our kitchen? 😉
One of my favourite things our ‘Santa’ did was wrap some of the gifts. Sure, the chocolate or lip gloss wouldn’t be wrapped, but the CD, socks and barrettes were. When we got old enough (there were four of us, so really, when my sister got old enough) we were allowed opening stockings together in our rooms, before waking mom and dad up and going to the tree. Having a little something to unwrap was a blast.
Fast forward to when I would do a stocking for my husband and now the kids, I continue to wrap some of the gifts. My husband thinks it’s crazy. “The stocking gifts aren’t wrapped, what are you doing?!”. But it was always the fun part.
So, in conjunction with this post, for the next week I have a poll asking you about wrapping stocking gifts (at the top of the page). I want to see if I am the only one (and if my husband is right! yikes!).
Do you wrap stocking gifts?
