Friday morning, as my husband was supposed to be leaving for work, he announced ‘I don’t think I’m going today’. ‘Ha’ was my reply, because quite frankly, him staying home would be awesome, but him randomly calling out doesn’t happen.
As time really got late and I told him I suspected he should be leaving, he said ‘no, I won’t go. I need to get away. I’ve packed a bag, you coming?’ and he pointed towards the door. Sure enough, I hadn’t noticed his overnight bag sitting there, newly waiting.
He. Was. Serious.
We were going on a road trip!! I didn’t know to where and I didn’t care to be honest. I packed a bag for the kids and I and was ready to hit the road after preschool.
We drove and drove. I was thinking at first Quebec, but then we hit the 401 across Ontario. Then I started thinking maybe Kingston, we hadn’t been before. Or Toronto. There’s lots to do there. But once we went up to the 407, it was all familiar. I knew we were going to Niagara (I just wasn’t sure where). Niagara is probably our favourite place to be!!
Knowing that much, my husband decided to spill the rest. We were destined for Niagara Falls, a fallsview room at the Radisson hotel. We would go to the Bird Kingdom, my son’s favourite place, stop in for lunch in Niagara-on-the-Lake and just relax in comfort.
It was a perfect birthday surprise (my 30th is tomorrow 😉 plus, we have been trapped in the house with colds for a while. It ended up being a perfect family weekend.
I felt blessed. Extremely happy and ready to celebrate the next many years of my life with the three most favourite and special people to me.
Plus, my husband totally rocks. He booked a day off, planned the entire trip and put so much thought into it. I know how lucky I am, trust me.
Here are a few of the pictures from our room (yes, all were taken out the window of our room!)
Notice the rainbow? I mean, how awesome is that!? The kids were tired Saturday afternoon so we grabbed a Starbucks and played with the kids, who went to bed early!)
