Dijon Mustard (my preference is the grainy kind)
Garlic (preferably fresh, most often crushed)
Olive Oil
Balsamic Vinegar
Maple syrup
Curry paste
Ginger
Honey
Brown sugar
Lemon juice
Ketchup
Soy Sauce
The above list are items that I always have on hand.
I consider them my ‘must’ haves. Why? Because a combination of them will make many different meals. I just have to add a protein and some veggies to make it complete. Many meals during the week are rushed, or not decided on until 4 pm. Sometimes I have a recipe ready to go, but I don’t have certain items or have to modify it. The above items always help!
Do you have many of those items too? Some? Here’s some combinations that I’ve used, which is why I like to have them on hand. For this post, I will focus on a protein. In future posts, I’ll demonstrate how I use those items for side dishes or salads!
Combinations:
Dijon mustard + Honey (mixed) + chicken = Honey mustard chicken
Dijon mustard + maple syrup (mixed) + salmon = Maple mustard salmon
Curry paste + lemon juice + soy sauce + ginger + chicken = Curried bake chicken
Curry paste + lemon juice + soy sauce + ginger + white fish = Curried Steamed fish (wrap fish with above ingredients in foil or parchment pockets and back. It will steam in the pockets)
Ketchup + brown sugar + soy sauce + ginger + garlic + back ribs in slow cooker = Tender ribs
Ketchup + brown sugar + balsamic vinegar + water + ground beef meatballs = Yummy sweet and sour meatballs
Garlic + ginger + soy sauce + maple syrup + pork tenderloin = Garlic Maple Pork tenderloin
I love this list, and I am bookmarking this post until my printer is working. Then I will print it and put it in my cook book!
