Maple Syrup Love

If you get a chance, I’d love it if you read my latest post about visiting the Sugar Bush over at Buy Canadian First (hint: it’s the post where I admit publically that my prom was held at a Sugar Camp)

Yesterday, we went as a family to one of our local sugar bushes.  It was an amazing day weather-wise and was perfect to go on the wagon ride, play in the field and pet the farm animals.  Naturally, we also decided to have pancakes while there (they had a March Break special – $1 per pancake. oh ya!)

I apparently put what my husband calls an ‘embarrassing’ amount of syrup on my pancakes. Whatever. I’m at the sugar bush. With real maple syrup.  I fit as much syrup on the plate as I could without it spilling over (barely).

While pancakes are a very common breakfast (and sometimes lunch/supper) staple around here, I realized while at the sugar bush that my daughter, now 13 months, has never had maple syrup. I usually give her pancakes at home that are plain.

When at the sugar bush, you need to indulge.  I naturally shared my syrup-soaked pancakes with her.  I swear, I will never forget her reaction to those bites.

With each and every piece I handed her, after she tasted the first one, she squealed, giggled and excitedly ate more and more.  With each bite her toothy smile seemed to get even bigger. That’s mama’s girl – mostly syrup with a little bit of pancakes in there.  It was adorable, unexpected and I don’t think I will ever forget it.
