In February, after months of on-again, off-again potty training, we reached a real step forward. It was like he just suddenly accepted that it was time and started consistently using the toilet to do all of his business.
We were so proud of him!! He’s been doing great, so few accidents, even when we are out and about. He wears underwear to school with no trouble.
I wish I could tell you some special secret to our success, but to be honest for him it was just a matter of time. We tried not to make a huge deal out of it. We didn’t punish. We didn’t even use rewards (except the first couple of times he went poop we made a huge deal with ice cream, and the first couple of times he asked to go or told us himself, same thing). But, he just needed to decide he was ready.
We made everything available to him –underwear, potty on all toilets/every floor etc.
He still prefers to do his number 2 in his Pull-Up, but he does use the potty when necessary.
When I had the opportunity to participate in the new Huggies Pull-Ups Potty Dance blog tour with Mom Central Canada, I was happy to be invited to participate.
I started using Pull-Ups early on out of convenience, not to potty train, at first. They were easier to get on and off and my son grew out of regular diapers early so they were great. Then, when potty training, he was able to tell the difference between those and underwear. When he was ready to train though, I put underwear on at home during the day which did help him, leaving the Pull-Ups for at night or when we’d head out (or when he really wanted to poop!)
The funny thing is, when we first started to train, he liked watching the video links from the Treehouse TV website that Huggies had – they were ads but he liked watching the little girl in it learn about using the potty. Then, when he started using it he would say things like ‘I’m a big kid now’ – how’s that for good marketing? 😉
Check out the Pull-Ups website for more information about their product (sign up for coupons!) and to watch the Potty Dance with your kids and get talking about how much fun it is to use the potty.
Also, funny lady and mama Jessica Holmes and Traci Melchor from E-Talk have filmed their own potty dances with their kids – very cute! You can check them out below.
I won’t be filming our potty dance – but come on, you know we ALL do some sort of silly dance when they use the potty at least or to encourage them to use it!!
*This post is part of a Mom Central Blog tour. By letting you know about our wonderful potty journey (that is ongoing) and about Pull Ups I received a $25 Chapters gift card and a chance to win an Ipod Touch, which would kinda rock.*
