After seeing a link one morning on Twitter (thanks @journeywoman!) on how to make pasta, I decided to give it a try. I had all the ingredients on hand (very few are needed!) and the kids were playing nicely.
The recipe can be found here. I did find that I needed more flour than the recipe called for.
In the end, we were really happy with the taste. I ended up pairing it with a light garlic and cream sauce and shrimp. I did find the dough heavy though, but I didn’t use the mixer and don’t have a pasta machine to flatten and cut. I did that all by hand. Next time, I’ll use the mixer to knead and I think we’ll invest in a pasta machine (or better yet, the attachment for my Kitchenaid!)
The verdict: I’ll definitely try it again. My husband was thrilled with it, as was I. Also, next time, I think I will try it as a ravioli with a cheese and spinach filling maybe.
I rolled out the ball of dough with a rolling pin. Then folded it and cut it.
I unfolded the pieces and hung them to dry out for the afternoon on a clean plastic hanger.
After boiling them for a few minutes in water, I added the cooked noodles to my shrimp and sauce. Yum!
Looks amazing! I'm going to try!!
the hanger idea is pure genius!
My mother made homemade pasta when I was a child and sold it through the local supermarket. Seeing this post brought back a lot of memories. I remember coming home from school and helping to get the day's order filled.
I just may have to make some myself.
The thinner the better – so worth the pasta machine. Good for you for doing it without – I'm super impressed!
Let me know if you want to borrow mine to try it out some time 🙂
Oh that does sound yummy. I may try it too!
