I have a new bread maker. It makes up to 3 pound loaves and is horizonal. Loving it!
But the best bread recipe I’ve found so far is one of the most simple. It’s great for toast and for sandwiches, if it lasts that long since the best way to eat it is warm with butter.
Ingredients:
1 cup water
2 tbsp butter
1 egg
2 tbsp honey
3 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup flax seed (somewhat crushed)
1 1/4 tsp yeast
Directions
- Add ingredients in the bread maker in the order listed above.
- Use a 2 pound setting.
- Select rapid setting.
- Bake and enjoy!
I just got rid of my old bread maker. I had received it as a wedding gift and I just didn’t like it. I would love to get a new one. Especially with the revelation this week that my beloved Dempsters Whole Grains bread (seriously with a family of 5 we eat almost 2 loaves a week) has high fructose corn syrup in it. WHY OH WHY!!!!!
Bookmarked! A little birdie told me I’m getting a bread machine for Christmas 🙂 Can’t wait to start making my own bread so I can control what’s in it and save money too. Double win!
