I love my minivan.
There, I said it.
Go ahead and make fun. Go ahead and tell me how ‘uncool’ it is, how unstylish, how you’d never drive one. But I am a fan. I love it. 4 years ago, when we were expecting my son, we leased our Ford van (now, Ford doesn’t even make a van!). It didn’t take long for me to realize why this was the right choice for our family. Over the years, it’s become a home away from home. When travelling, when hauling both kids around, when helping family move.
The built-in DVD player is great on road trips. The power sliding doors have been invaluable. Ever carry shopping bags in one arm and a child in the other? Or carry one child while holding the other’s hand in the parking lot? With the press of a button on my key ring, my doors open – hands free!
My son can climb up by himself and there is enough room to carry everything we could need. Driving back from my mother-in-law’s this week we had 2 kids (and 2 big car seats) and 3 adults, plus luggage for all of us and there was plenty of room.
The practicality of my van far out-weighs the uncool factor. Our lease was up this year and we bought this vehicle. No one was going to take it from me!
Read this post by Maureen at the Yummy Mummy Club. Very funny!
Are you a minivan lover or loather?
while i am not a fan, i see the lure. with a kid and a giant 100lb dog, we need room. hence owning a wagon. i don’t know which is considered more “uncool” the wagon or van. the hubby would love a van (he’s 6’6″). i perhaps see one in our future. just don’t tell him i told you so!
DS is a pretty good photographer! My daughter has a van and loves it. I love a van too but don’t own one yet. Since moving to the country there have been more than a few times when we wished we had one. Everyone out here seems to own a truck but when my current car has to go to *car heaven* we are going to purchase a van. Between a truck and a van, my choice is the van. I don’t care much about the *cool* factor…just want room for grand-kid’s car seats, a labrador and all that which goes with those 🙂
I never had any fear of minivan 😉 We had a mazda 5 for awhile which I loved which was kind of like a mini mini van but it wouldn’t suit with twins so we got a Sienna. I love it. We didn’t get the dvd players and self opening door although I certainly see the appeal. maybe our next van 🙂
I love my van! We have a Grand Caravan and I can’t imagine life without it. So much space and secret storage. Sadly we don’t have the automatic doors, but the built-in DVD was a no-brainer seeing as we commute with the wee one every day.
Long live the Mom Van!
