I’ve decided to separate my personal and professional goals because I’m not really sure what direction my professional goals ever take me. If you had told me 2 years ago that I’d be writing, blogging, tweeting and developing a social media presence in between play time, potty training and museum trips, I’d never believed it.
But here I am, the Community Engagement Manager for Best Tools for Schools, owner of this blog, Editor/Owner of my new A Little Bit of FoodSense blog, fundraiser/event creator (remember Shopping and Sweets?!) all while children sleep or play.
So what’s next? On one hand, I’m really not sure and that’s kind of exciting. But I’m a planner, so I need to have some goals. Here they are:
1-Continue to enthusiastically work with Best Tools for Schools. The coolest thing about that job? Candace and Laurie. Seriously. People make businesses don’t they? And yes, I plan on doing some good work but hanging with them is pretty cool.
2-Launch A Little Bit of FoodSense. It’s pretty well ready. I have 7 awesome contributors and I’m looking forward to having a space all about good food with tried and tested recipes – that all of us can make at home.
3-Launch Sense and Community. This site will be a bit of a catch all for Social Media/my consulting stuff and links to my other sites. I needed an umbrella of sorts. Hope to have it set up soon!
4-Attend more tweet ups. I want to meet more people in real life, because those personal connections are so meaningful. I am hoping to get out to more now that the kids are older and things are settled here a bit!
5-Set time aside for blogging/working and make efficient use of time. I typically get a chance to write when the kids are sleeping, sometimes when they are playing quietly. But it’s not consistant. And all it takes is for a sick child or a change in plans and the ‘writing’ time gets pushed back. I don’t want to work late into the night (being social is one thing, but my mind needs to rest!) and when the kids sleep it’s the only solo time DH and I get. So I need to set a certain number of hours aside and that’s it. What doesn’t get done, doesn’t get done 😉
6-Respond promptly to emails. Hey guess what? This was on my plan last year too! Sometimes I respond right away, but I find now with the iPhone/iPad that I don’t always do it immediately, then it’s read and later when I get a chance to respond it’s 20 emails at the bottom and I forget.
7-Being better organized overall. Efficiency is my word for 2011.
What are your professional goals?!
Wow Rebecca, this is outstanding! Lookit you go!
My goals? Um, professionally, just surviving will do. For the rest of my life? I’m terrible at goal setting, but the new 365 project will ensure that I continue to grow as a photographer AND have a good source of nourishment for the blog, so that’s pretty much all I aspire to.
Yeah, I know, not exactly lofty goals, but reading yours tired me out!! 😉
Getting organised! That’s a key one. Good luck with all this.
Congratulations Rebecca – you have accomplished so much. Awesome! 🙂
