Chiquita Baby is a fabulous Ottawa baby/children’s store that has a great presence on Twitter, which is where we connected. Anne opened October 2008 when she was pregnant with her second child.
Anne says “ We opened the store as I wanted a one stop shop where people could get everything- organic clothing, slings & carriers, nursing wear, cloth diapers. Having a storefront is very important so that customers can see the products in person, and get demos from helpful & knowledgeable staff. We also have a consignment section so the parents can recycle their children’s clothing 0-4 years, and maternity.”
A few unique products they carry (with a focus on Work At Home Moms)
- Tough titties nipple rub
- Monkey fart laundry soap(smells like bananas)
- Loopey 4 ewe crochet hats with a flower(made here in Ottawa *note, my daughter has one of her hats and they are adorable!)
- Laundry Tarts Canadian made laundry soap(root beer, bubblegum, maple syrup)
- funky prints fitted diaper called Guerilla fluff.
Their focus on knowledgeable staff and wanting to help parents makes this a great destination for your shopping needs.

For real, I couldn’t live without my dishwasher since having my son. But I guess that’s not really a baby item. Ummm, our Bummis prefolds and wraps have come a long way and we use them everyday. So, I’ll go with those 🙂
I could not live without my wrap carrier… hands down the best product I ever bought. The first few weeks of baby’s life, she lived in it, and because she was colicky, we used it many, many, many more days and nights after that as it was the only thing she would calm down and fall asleep in. Even now, at 5 months, we still use it for the occasional guaranteed nap, and we’ll continue to use it until she doesn’t fit in it anymore. We loved it so much we’ve been buying them for everyone we know that’s having a baby!
I couldn’t live without my husband! I’ve been very sick during my pregnancy and he has been there for me every day and has made every day easier for me.
I could not have lived without my BabyHawk with both kids. So handy!!
I could not live without so many things but, probably the most convenient, cute and fun are my cloth diapers. I could really use some more too as we’re expecting baby #3 and my daughter is still in diapers!
Sooo many things, but definitely wraps/carriers. We’ve used different ones since the first week, and they’re a lifesaver. Helped us hugely in getting around the hospital this weekend to visit grandma.
I couldn’t live without my cloth wipes. My son has super sensitive skin and disposable wipes burn his skin and cause some major irrtation. Since we use cloth diapers, cloth wipes just go right into the wash with them and we never have to worry about running out of them!
Breastfeeding my children has given me the greatest joy, however they got big quickly. I couldn’t live without my big soft nursing pillow to hold my baby in the best position. I use it everyday and think every nursing mom needs one!
I couldn’t live without my sound machines. the babies & my 4.5 year old need them as do I lol
I could not do without my sleepy wrap and beco butterfly. And all the helpful instruction from Anne @ Chiquita Baby. Sometimes it’s the only way to get our little guy to sleep.
Definitely my BabyHawk carrier, the best carrier and there are times when my son won’t fall asleep any other way, still going strong with it at 12 months!
I could not have functioned without my Ergo carrier that first year. Allowing me to have my hands free both in the house and out and about, it was especially useful when travelling through airports – no strollers to mess with and we never get trapped in tight corners or have to worry about parking it somewhere. Plus, I got to enjoy lots of cuddle time with my son.
I could not live with out my Ergo backpack. My daughter is 19 months old now and I can still carry her just as easy as I did when she was 6 months old.
I could NOT live without my cloth diapers! I cringe at the thought of it at first, but now I don’t know what I’d do without them! They are ADORABLE paired with a cute pair of baby leg warmers. 🙂
I would say my stroller…my daughter is 3 1/2 and it is the one item that I have been able to use still up to now when needed! Great for walks, for out shopping, and for napping in when little and we were out etc.
I couldn’t live without the kettle! From formula to coffee. It’s always plugged in!
I love my Arms Reach Co-Sleeper, which I managed to buy off of kijiji. I fall asleep better when my little one is in the co-sleeper (rather than right next to me), but he is still nice and close for his many night feeds.
I would have to say I couldn’t live without the baby swing. As a stay at home dad to 3 boys under 3 things get quite hectic. That is the only thing that helped me when the wife was at work. If the swing couldn’t soothe them no one else could! It is liquid gold to me! I would even trade my x-box lol
I love love love our Ergo! I just don’t have enough arms to get everything done. The carrier really gives me that extra advantage… and looks really hot on my husband 🙂
I couldn’t live without swaddling blankets (the Miracle Blanket is our favourite). It has been so wonderful in the early days — up to 6 months, really – with both kids. I’ve loved my Beco and cloth diapers, too!
I could not live without our triple stroller. I have 9 grandchildren under 4 right now so I am one busy Grandma! That stroller is a life saver, not getting any younger so any bit helps!
Hmm, so many to choose from. I would say my Baby Bjorn. All of my babies loved it in there. I’ve switched to the Beco so I can now carry the youngest on my back.
My bouncy seat! When all else fails, it can always calm down my baby. And as a bonus, it’s also a hand-me-down!
i would have to say that its a pretty close tie between camilia a natural teething remedy and my sling. All the babies were saved by the camilia as babies but they were all saved again when baby number three came along and i was able to carry him around in the sling while still doing the same things i could do with them before he was born. Both made my life much much easier and i cannot imagine life without them. however if i have to choose one i would have to say the sling as i have used it many more times that the camilia.
I couldn’t live without my baby carriers to keep babe close & hands free!
I couldn’t live without my stretchywrap! Great for bonding with baby and getting things done around the house (and a lifesaver if you have other children in the house!)
I couldn’t live without my washing machine…especially if I had to wash cloth diapers by hand!
I couldn’t live without my baby carriers!
My ERGO, and my Bummis Super Snap covers!
Baby Tylenol 😉
Probably couldn’t live without my baby sling and carrier. Nothing like having your little one snuggled close as you move through your day. 🙂
I wouldn’t want to be without my baby’s vibrating/bouncy chair. It puts him right to sleep and is great for when he’s extra fussy. A close second favorite item would be his swaddle sleep sack.
I love Monkey Farts laundry soap — covers up the smell of baby farts.
I couldn’t live without my Ergo Carrier and weather cover. It’s gotten me through 4 winter’s with ease!
Our ERGO! That thing saved our sanity. From about 4 months to 8 months old, my son refused to nap anywhere but on me. It allowed me the freedom to move while he slept. It also made visiting really easy since he could sleep when he wanted and we didn’t need to tote around a huge stroller. Now, it’s great since he goes on my back and has a great view! 🙂
I couldn’t live without my cloth diapers! I never thought I would ever use cloth diapers, but now I feel so horrible when I have to put my son in the disposables. And thanks to a lot of advice from Anne I have become a pro. I love my cloth diapers!
I too could not live without my cloth diapers. It has made the whole diapering part of baby care enjoyable–and that’s a big part 🙂 Cloth diapers have allowed my nearly 1 year old son and I to gain awareness of when he has to go, as such for the past 8 months he has always given me the chance to take him to the potty for #2’s and many of his #1’s
My wrap and my Beco! The only way to chase my toddler while carrying my newborn and get things done around the house.
I couldn’t live without my cloth diapers…they are amazing and great and easy to use, and it makes me feel like my baby is really taken care of!
I love my diaper sprayer! It was great post-partum, great now that DD is eating solids, and great for cleaning the shower.
I love my baby carriers!
I could not live without my ergo sport… makes having 2 kids 31 months and 3 months so much easier 🙂
I love my sleepy wrap, it was so helpful in taking care of my toddler and keeping my newborn comfortable & content. I still use it to carry my 10 month old when running out and about and she is due for a sleep.
Right now, with an 8 week old little girl, the products I could not live without would be my Moby wrap and our white noise machine… newborn babies are NOISY! lol
We cant live without our Mei Tai Carrier. Awesome to have both hands free while carrying baby, she is 1 year old now and we still use it. We have to learn how to do the back carry now!
Do I count, Rebecca?? I’ll be back in Ottawa by summer… with a three month old! Best baby product, a woven wrap. Hands down.
I wouldn’t be able to live without my carriers. I used my Moby until my little guy fit comfortably in my Ergo. It was the only way he would sleep during the first few weeks. There is absolutely no feeling in the world like having a baby fast asleep on your chest with his soft little head nestled under your shin. Bliss.
Cloth diapers. My son has not yet had a diaper rash and the only time we have had a leak is when I put him in disposables on laundry day (now I make sure I have a few to get me through the wash & dry time).I hate to think of all the diapers going to landfills.
PS I was in your store yesterday and bought 4 more diapers, including my first Sweet Pea, which I LOVE <3 Thanks
I could not have lived without my Sleepy Wrap. We used it until our baby was 9 months! Nowadays, we travelled overseas lately and it was great to have the CARES restraint system for the plane, saved us a lot of hassle and kept her safe!
I for sure could not live without my Moby. I probably used it everyday! As a single teen mom I loved being able to bond with my son, and it made nursing even easier, which made our bond even stronger!
This time around, the most valuable item for me has been my kiddopotamus swaddlers! My first two kids couldn’t stand them. Numero three can’t sleep without ’em — and she is now over 20 lbs! Honestly… They’ve been unbelievable. I’m wondering if we’ll still be swaddling her in her teens!
My can’t live without item has been my nummies nursing bra! Helped make feedings with a fussy nurser just a little bit easier!
I can’t live without my Hylands Calm 4 Kids… my son has night terrors and this is the only thing that will settle him after one!
Hmmm….That’s hard. A few items have proven essential – our city select double stroller, our electric side-to-side swing, the bouncy chair that bounces itself, our glass bottles for the supplemental feedings I have had to resort to due to limited breastmilk!
I couldn’t live without……. my medela pump in style breast pump… I’ve exclusively breastfed since birth but without that awesome breastpump it wouldn’t have been possible.. I had a severe skin infection on my chest that made it way to painful to breastfeed my premature baby..
Tommee Tippee sippy cups!!! After months and months of trying out every sippy under the sun we fell upon tommee tippee. In one word: amazing!!! They have numerous “stages” which meet the needs of children of all ages. They do not leak which has in turn made my life so much easier as I am no longer consistently wiping up stinky milk up off my floor or better yet aloe vera juice that my daughter is now hooked on! Not to mention the fact that my 18 month old daughter loves them and clearly prefers them to any other sippee, and….theyre beyond affordable! Tommee Tippee training cups have helped me maintain not only my sanity but clean floors!
I love my sleepy wrap carrier, it’s the only way I can get things done around the house and great for going out. I like that I can be productive and still feel like I’m with the baby.
