Last week I had the opportunity to go on Rogers Daytime here in Ottawa to talk about taking road trips with the kids.
You can watch the video here.
What you may notice is a table full of items that help make our trip a little easier. They all fit into a large grocery bag so it doesn’t take up a lot of extra space in the vehicle. Since I didn’t get a chance to name the items in great detail, here is a break down to help:
-The doll is Mrs. Tucan. She’s just a fave and travels with us often.
-Food includes items that don’t need to be refrigerated like Gold Fish, bananas, cookies and so on. We bring with us the full bags and disperse as needed, but always travel with our little cups to put the items in.
My personal favourite are the Kinderville jars that I reviewed on this blog. They have a lid for when the kids are done and hold pieces of fruit etc.
I also recommend a stainless steel straw cup for keeping drinks cold for a very long time. Mine are Thermos ones.
There is a reusable sandwich bag that is great for lunch on the go. Mine is from Spoiled Sugar.
In addition, paper towels and plastic bags are a must.
-For activities, we bring books, CDs (pictured is the Name Your Tune CD that the kids love to sing along to), DVDs and if they are younger their favourite lovies or chew things.
-I recommend a change of clothes that is accessible so you don’t have to route in suitcases. In particular if you are travelling later at night, have them change into pjs at one of the stops. Have diapers and wipes somewhere handy.
I didn’t bring it with me, but I do mention a cooler for travelling that can be plugged into the car to keep things cold. I’ve written about that here.
Do you have any ‘must bring’ items for road trips?
Great tips Rebecca and you did super well on the morning show!
You did a great job Rebecca, and you looked gorgeous!!
The Name Your Tune Cd was by far one of the best purchases I have made for our road trips! Great tips!
Thanks for the great tips. I like the reusable lunch bags best. They are eco-friendly and really, really cute!
