Planning the summer

I am so anxious for school to be done.  Yes, my son is loving it and is having a lot of fun with friends, but now that the nice weather is here I don’t want to *have* to be somewhere at certain times.  And with early risers, when we make plans, we typically want to get going first thing in the morning.

Granted, school only goes until 10:30, but you know what I mean.

It’s almost summer!! Summer!! YAY!

We love staying close to home, and with appointments and plans in July that’s likely what we will be doing.  A few day or overnight trips to Toronto or Montreal may be in order.

But we want to think about doing a cottage too – beach and water seems appealing and we know the kids will love it.   We will be seeing family and friends and I suspect every week will have a few play dates planned.

There are a few local Ottawa attractions and nearby travels that are on our list:

  • National Art Gallery in Ottawa
  • Upper Canada Village (we have a season pass this year!)
  • Montreal (Jardin Nelson.  Look it up.  Trust me.)
  • Wakefield

That’s just a few places that we’ve been talking about.  It’s a lot of fun planning what we will be doing, not to mention all of the unplanned activities – the splash park, playing with friends, rainy day pj day, baseball, golf, and so much more!

What do you have planned for the summer? Staycation? Small trips? Big trips?

We have a couple big trips, 10 days in Halifax then a week in Burlington (with an extra week for my 4 yr old to go to day camp while staying with the grandparents).
Storyland is always top of our list and we got a Season Pass for the year. We love the variety of activities, the fantastic staff and that it’s never too busy.
I put together envelopes for our days with nothing planned, they are seperated into full day, half day, expensive and free/cheap. When we have nothing to do, I’ll let the 4 year old choose from the appropriate envelope.
I am really looking forward to freedom from the bus. We do afternoon kindergarten so our mornings are always spent making sure we’re home in time to give the 4 year old the hour she takes to eat lunch before hopping on the bus!

Wow, great ideas. I really need to get a plan together for summer activities. I have high hopes to cram in as much as we can. So far I know we want to go to a zoo, a baseball game, a water park, and a friends cottage. I am really looking forward to 2 weeks vacation in July.
