So, I’ve talked about my love for TV before. It’s always been an addiction outlet for me.
I like getting lost in characters, and action, and laughing and the nonsense that is so out of the realm of reality but is just plain fun to watch.
It’s September which means a lot of shows are starting back up. After the season finale of True Blood last night (sigh – I enjoyed it, but yet, it angers me in parts!! Also, Eric is hot as the Sheriff), my TV commitments can shift to, oh, about a dozen more shows. Although, frankly, as obsessed as I am into True Blood as I am, nothing – and I mean nothing – got to me like Game of Thrones. Oh how I loved that show.
So, here’s my anticipated line up (plus there are others that if I watch, I enjoy) But my must sees:
Boardwalk Empire
Dexter
Castle
Bones
The Good Wife
Glee (although, honestly, I’m at the point that if I miss it, I’m not stressed)
The Big Bang Theory
How I Met Your Mother
30 Rock (frankly, the funniest show on TV)
The Office
So, yes, I am missing stuff – follow my tweets each night to see what I”m watching 😉 but these are most of my go-tos.
AND this doesn’t even include the NEW shows that I want to check out.
What are your ‘must watch’ shows this year? Will you be watching any of the above with me?
Tell me in the comments what shows I shouldn’t be missing!!
You’ve got great taste! I love Dexter and we’re The Office addicts. We buy the seasons on DVD. 30 Rock is another big hit here too.
I’ll check out Boardwalk Empire and The Big Bang Theory since you mentioned them. : )
haven’t watched the true blood finale yet. it’s too short a season. it’s getting a lot more campy, which i am fine with since i an still in buffy withdrawl, all these years later.
game of thrones? O!M!G! awe-some!
we’ve just started on sons of anarchy. love it.
I’m okay with the campy stuff (and sooo love Buffy) but sometimes it’s just plain gahhh (and I’ve read the books which are awesome!)
I don’t watch a lot of TV and we don’t have cable, but we do enjoy Castle and NCIS. We buy the seasons pass in iTunes. I also watch Glee, it’s just fun. Even with that short list we get behind in episodes, I don’t know how people keep up on so many shows!
I don’t watch too many in real time, a lot are on Demand but really, it fills my evenings some days 😉
I love Dexter! I also like How I Met Your Mother, 30 Rock, and Glee, but I’m not too upset if I miss any of them. One of my friends recommended The Good Wife to me, and I’m thinking I need to try it.
Others on my list for this fall that I’d recommend:
Modern Family
Happy Endings
Parenthood
Chuck
I did a recent post with my favorites – not necessarily current:

I’m still developing my fall schedule 🙂
Oh your post is awesome! I watched many of those shows when I had my first baby!
Thanks – I’ve clearly wasted a lot of my life watching TV. Or maybe it’s a great use of my time 🙂
Ooh, thanks for the reminders! My PVR died at the end of July and I’m still trying to rebuild my list.
Swoon – PVR. That’s one treat I may invest in sometime in the future 😉
It’s been years since I have regularly watched any television show. I couldn’t tell you why…I do watch a bit during the day when I am working in the kitchen but that is generally a HGTV type of show.
Not a big watcher of T.V. but I’ve been watching The Good Wife since it first aired and I love the writing and the acting. It is a must see for me and is recorded on the DVR so I’m sure not to miss it. Enjoyed the first season of Boardwalk Empire and will watch again this year. The Big Bang Theory is my one comedy I truly enjoy. Will watch Grey’s as well. I think this is may be the last season for it.
I am so very happy to read this post – often when I admit to people that my husband and I like to (GASP) watch TV in the evenings, I feel like a pariah. It’s our dirty little secret.
Every year I get a hold of Entertainment Weekly’s Fall TV Preview issue (I have it now – I think it’s this week’s issue) and circle what I am going to check out. Sad, but true.
On the list for this year, some new, some old: Ringer (due to Buffy obsession – it stars Sarah Michelle Gellar), Parenthood, How I Met Your Mother, Castle, Glee (although like you, I’m very meh about it now), Modern Family, 30 Rock (won’t be back on your TV until January, so don’t panic), The Big Bang Theory, Grey’s Anatomy (still faithful after all these years), Person of Interest (if you’re going to watch one new show, make it this one – Thursdays at 9), Prime Suspect, House, and The Good Wife.
I’d also love to watch Homeland, but it is a Showtime show so I’m not sure if we will have access to it. And speaking of American cable shows, if you get a chance to check out Justified, I highly recommend it. It’s second season just ended this past July so new episodes won’t be around for several months – this is the perfect time to get your hands on Season 1 and Season 2 and watch them back to back to back. It’s AWESOME.
I LOVE the Entertainment Weekly fall preview – and I watch a lot of these same shows!
Thanks for the reminder that I need to create my tv schedule 🙂
I’ve missed Castle and HIMYM. Looking forward to the new Christina Applegate comedy and Sarah Michelle Geller’s show.
I’m both eagerly anticipating and dreading the second season of Game of Thrones. Trying to decide if I should read the books so I can brace myself for the shockers or just deal with them.
Our must-watches are:
– Chuck (last season!)
– Eureka
– Warehouse 13
– Game of Thrones (and I’ve read the books!)
– Modern Family (love love love)
Beyond that, we USUALLY try to watch:
– House
– The Big Bang Theory
– Fringe
– Criminal Minds
We used to watch Dexter, but despite seasons 3 and 4 being passable, nothing ever seems as good as the original season. After trying to watch season 5 and having it not grab us, we’re not caught up in order to anticipate the next season.
I gave up on Gray’s Anatomy ages ago, though I did enjoy the first 2 seasons. My wife still watches it. She also watches Parenthood, which I loved for the first season and then started to dread.
Shows we have seen and would watch if we had more time for TV:
– The Mentalist
– Castle
– Bones
I also have a weakness for cartoons, which my wife doesn’t watch. Have seen every episode of South Park, The Cleveland Show, Family Guy, Venture Bros, and all kinds of other juvenile cartoons and bits of anime.
