We put up one of our two trees yesterday! Yes, two trees. Our main large tree will go up later this week and yesterday we decorated our mini three-foot tree that sits in our kitchen.
This mini tree has become our ‘fun’ tree. It’s where we put our meaningful Christmas decorations that we pick up on trips, or that remind us of something, or that are just plain fun.
Each year, we typically add a new ‘fun’ ornament because one of us will get one as a gift. Last year, Santa left a Perry the Platypus ornament under the tree.
Part of the fun was opening up the container yesterday and everyone becoming very excited by the ornaments.
Some of our favourites include the Rudolph ornaments, the School House Rock ornament that sings Conjunction Junction and the lobster claw from PEI 9 years ago.
Do you have ornaments that mean something special to you? The ones kids make? Do you collect ornaments when you travel?

When I was a kid my mother would buy my sister and me a new ornament every year and I still have all of them and I think I can pretty much remember the order I got them in. Now we’re doing the same for Maggie.
My mothers tree is full of ornaments that have meaning to her and us. I have started the same tradition with my family but we have lots of tree still to fill 🙂 This year I splurged on a Tim Hortons timbit ornament 🙂
Sweet little tree with tons of meaning!
We have tons of special ornaments. We get them from trips and we buy everyone at least one new ornament a year. My mom also buys us ornaments. They come with the best stories.
We always had special ornaments when growing up, and have continued the tradition with the lils 🙂
This year we are making ALL of our ornaments, so I am sure that we will come home with some great ones. 🙂
We bought some glass ornaments when our kids were born… They hold a special place in my heart of course
