At this time of year it becomes even more apparent to me just how truly blessed we are. As I write about cooking and the treats we indulge in, shopping and the what I’m sure is an excessive amounts of gifts we buy, decorating and joy – my good fortunes are made even more clear.
This is the perfect time of year to give back in some way – to our community, to our neighbours, to various causes that we may hold dear.
As such, Gwen Leron and I have been working hard on the upcoming Shopping & Sweets event, happening tomorrow at Shenkman Arts Centre from 10-2. Local vendors will be on site selling goods (and helping you get some shopping done!), Sugar and Spice Custom Cakes is selling cupcakes and it will be a fun way to connect with friends.
This is the second year that Gwen and I have organized the event. It started as an idea to bring local business owners together for charity (and since we have a sweet tooth, the cupcakes were included) and now it something we are both very proud of. Proceeds from the day will be donated to two local charities – The Christmas Exchange program and the Orleans Cumberland Community Resource Centre. I may not have a lot of money to give throughout the year, but I do have time and this is how I can give back.
In addition, I’ve decided that a portion of the ad revenue I make for the month of December will be donated to a few charities here in Ottawa:
Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation
This holiday season we have a lot to be thankful for so I am happy to do something extra to help.
