Another snow day in Ottawa, and despite the fact that I drive the kids, I decide to follow the buses on snow days. If they are cancelled, my van transportation is too.
It means pjs and extra play time and I’m ok with that.
I think snow days are a Canadian child’s right. Don’t you remember (if you were in the ‘cold’ zones like rural Eastern Ontario like I was) waiting with excitement to hear if there was a snow day? It’s exciting.
So I give my kids their snow days at home. Eventually they may ask to go (less kids in the class can be fun too) but for now, we just enjoy the extra time in the morning and the relaxed start to the day. It’s a stay-at-home mom perk that I am perfectly ok with.
Did you have a snow day today?
We used to do the same thing when they were younger – I agree, I have blissful memories of snow days and I wanted them to have the same. Now that they’re older (gr 3 and 6) we take it on a case-by-case basis. They were out of school the first week back for a family vacation, so right now they’re going because they’ve missed enough school for the next little while, except my daughter is sick so she’s home today anyway.
