Thanks to our advertiser, Smart Space Organizing, I’ve been picking up some really great tips about organizing in the home (and home office). Do you follow Smart Space Organizing on Facebook? Worth the ‘like’ because she posts tidbits of information that are really helpful.
Heather at Smart Space Organizing gave me pieces from the closetMAX closet organizer system to review. Sounded great since I knew the closets needed help, but honestly, I never really thought about getting closet organizers. Do they really help?
Quick answer: YES!
What I like about the closetMAX system
It was easy to use. This may seem like a no-brainer, but honestly, I don’t like to have to guess how to construct things or how to set them up. These came folded and ready to hang in the closet.
They are versatile. Because of the extra bars that can be inserted into the systems, we are able to make more hanging space in the closet – and as you’ll see in my before and after pictures, a space for the kids to hang their own jackets!
They are smart. Inserts for drawers, bars, small space for shoes, larger space for sweaters, different configurations – the system can fit into any closet and make it work better.
What I wish it had:
I wish I could order online. There is information about the closetMAX system on this website, but not a place to order. I am told that Walmart carries them and that RONA does as well (and they are on sale this month I believe!). But having an online source would be nice.
Also, the tan colour is neutral and perfect, but I think having some colours would be a really fun way to make the closet even prettier!
The Reveal
With the pieces that Smart Space Organizing gave me, I was able to do the front hall closet and my master bedroom walk in closet. I’m still finishing up the walk-in and will save that for another post, but the front hall is a pretty big change.
In addition to using pieces from the system, I also did a major clean up and purge. Most of my shoes (heels) went to the master bedroom closet, and there were some old coats that went for donation or to the master bedroom closet for storage. However, almost everything else, including spring and winter coats, boats, shoes for everyone, hats/winter gear and my purses stayed.
BEFORE (note: clearly there was no staging! I took the picture as was)
AFTER: (and note: 2 weeks later, it still really does look like this!)
I’m HAPPY!

I have LOTS of closets that need help but the worst one is my bedroom closet. It tends to be a storage room more than anything!!
Well all ours need desperate help..I cant believe the difference in your before and after pictures, gives me hope that perhaps something can be done for our closets too. Our coat closet is the most in need of help I think..
The messiest is the front hall, but I really want to reorganize my 2 year old’s closet so it’s more accessible to her when she is a bit older. I’d like to put a lower pole and a shelf or two that she can easily get to.
my bedroom’s walk-in closet and my daughter’s room closet.
All of out closets need some work. I was going to say too much stuff and not enough space but, I think we need to do a major purge.
All my closets need help ! -I think it has to be the front hall closet though -thats where everything gets “dumped” and of course the 1st thing you see when you open the front door!
Looks great! I just re-organized our front hall closet but the master bedroom and linen closet could still use some help
Wow! Looks great! My bedroom closet is the worst in the house! It needs LOTS of help!
All my closets could use a little help but the worst is my bedroom closet after moving from a townhome to an apartment with my husband we went from a walk in closet to a lot smaller one and now there’s so much of my stuff in it my husband had to start using the hall closet for his clothes so this organizer would be great

Just built a new house and trying to incorporate spaces for organization. Still haven’t figured out how to organize my shoes because I have a lot of boots and shoes of varying heights.
That is amazing. We’re moving, so I won’t know until we get in and start living in the new house what the problem areas will be, but right now the closet in the spare room is the catch all. It’s pretty bad.
Oh…very cool! Yep. I definitely have a spot ( okay…several spots ) for these:). And kudos to you for sharing the before! We all have closets like that…well…for now;)
Actually my laundry room which is pretty much a big closet could use some help!
All of them! Closests in my house are the catchall for all the odds & ends. If I have to choose one though, it will be my front hall closet! Would love for the kids to be able to hang their coats up on a lower rod like in the picture.
Without question the master bedroom closet needs the most help! My husband and I share it and it isn’t going well!!!
Great comments folks. I will take your questions and answer some of them in upcoming blog posts.
