It’s March Break for us in Ottawa so we have the luxury of no rushing around in the morning.
In all honesty, since my son is only in school for a couple hours a day, the morning rush is the biggest change for us when March break begins (although that will will change next year!). It means that the places and activities we often go to for fun will be busier than usual.
We do have a lot of fun planned, including some outings to museums and other ‘hot spots’ in the city.
However, one of my goals with March Break is to not over schedule ourselves. I like having some freedom to pick up and go or change plans (especially with the nice weather!). So I’m trying to balance quiet with fun, and fun with not-too-expensive.
If you are like us, you will want a few days at home to not worry about pulling out the car and being somewhere at a certain time. Here are a few ideas to make your regular ‘at home’ routine a little extra fun.
1- May I have your ticket please?
Love movies? We do. Set up a movie theatre (or drive in like below!) with tickets, candy station, and special seating.

2- Keep ’em active:
Set up an obstacle course or make a day of Olympic activities. The more you get the kids moving, the less time they will have to become board (and fight!).
Wondering what kind of Olympic Activities you can do?
-Hurdle over pillows
-long jump
-Balloon volleyball
-Sprints
Be creative!
If it’s nice out, get outside! I love this scavenger hunt idea.

3- Fun with Food
Lunch is my least favourite meal to prepare. But when on holidays, we usually try to mix it up a little with picnics and something a little different.
I wrote a post for momstown Ottawa about some creative lunch time solutions including a link to having a pirates lunch!
