I am almost done my Christmas shopping for the kids. I usually start early, look for the key ‘Santa’ items to go on sale, and purchase when they do. For some things I buy full price not wanting to take the chance of it not being available come the big day.
Since both of my kids’ birthdays book end Christmas by only a couple of months, and since we try not to buy a lot of toys during the year at random for them, we do make Christmas a special gift time. But this still means that we are selective about what we buy. We balance the wants that they have, with the items that make most sense for our family. We choose eco friendly options when possible, some fun items that may not last forever but that really make them say ‘WOW!’. We try not to add mountains of toys, but selective, perfect toys to their toy boxes.
My biggest tip when shopping for your kids – they don’t need everything. Some items will have to fall off the list and that will be ok. It’s so hard for us as parents to know when to stop. About 2 weeks ago I felt like I was done. Then I thought of a couple new toys that they would love and I want to get them. It happens all the time right? They are so easy to shop for that it’s hard to stop.
However, when shopping for them I have to remember that it’s not the stuff they will remember forever, it’s the moments created with them. When we play with the toys together, or when they create stories and games themselves, that’s what is most important.
I’ve written about some of the new toys that Fisher Price has this year before. My kiddos are getting some which will add to the wow factor, and will be perfect for us to play with together. I know each of them will love the items I found and I can’t wait to see their faces when they open them.

Wow, I haven’t even started yet.for my kids. But as you say, that’s because they are so easy to shop for. I am finished with my parents, my brother and my nephews who are back I’m France. And I have to find a new florist for my grandmother. I send her a bouquet each time.
We probably won’t buy anything for the baby since he has all his brother’s toys. And for the big one, we’re debating. He asked for a DS or something like this to play video games, and said many times that it was his favorite. But we don’t want to give him that…
So we’re hesitating. Even a Wii doesn’t feel right yet.
So what are your kids getting?
my son has asked for a chemistry set and lab coat. he’s getting it for sure 🙂
