Every January I go through a time of renewal. I feel refreshed after a couple of solid weeks with my family, the holidays make me take stock of all my blessings, and as I enter January, I want to live happily for the entire year.
One of the areas I tend to focus on is organization. I look to my work contracts and see better systems to put in place for tracking, planning and doing. I look at my home and see ways to declutter and reclaim my space.
With that in mind, I wanted to spend a few posts this month talking about organization and what we all can do (even little steps) to make our space easier to live in. With many of us opting to stay in smaller homes with limited storage, I think there’s a lot of room to learn. And SPOILER ALERT! I am terrible at staying organized.
Fortunately, since I have no business telling others how to get organized (although I do have some tips!) I’ve enlisted the help of long time Bit of Momsense Advertiser, Heather Burke, who owns Smart Space Organizing.
Here’s what Heather tells us about herself and her business:
I love my life, being a small business owner, helping my clients with the emotional and physical issues of getting and keeping organized, and just enjoying life as it happens.
I was not born with the “organizing gene” so I learned how to organize from the ground up. Courses taken through the Institute for Challenging Disorganization (ICD) have not only helped with working with clients, the courses have also helped me in my day to day life.
Weekends can find me having a coffee with my husband of 30+ years, growing vegetables, going out with friends or whitewater rafting. Laughter truly is the best medicine.
Heather has been a Professional Organizer and Productivity Expert for almost twenty years and comes from a background in business consulting. You can reach Heather at Heather@Smartspaceorganizing.ca and check out the Smart Space Organizing website for blog post tips, ways to work with Heather and her team and more!
AND catch Heather on Rogers Daytime this Friday (January 11) as she shares some of her tips for organizing around the house!
So what will these blog posts be about? Mostly household and paper organization. Filing systems, ways to make our bathrooms and kitchens more tidy, tips to purge and more.
What are some of your ‘I need help!’ areas for organization?
To kick off the series, I’ve included some of my favourite Pinterest pins below that might help you get inspired!
1- Using two coat hooks to hang the ironing board. I need to do this!

2- I need to do something at our back patio door. This with a stool? I’m not sure, but we can’t have a pile of shoes and beach towels on the floor!

3- I love Expedit shelving from Ikea, we have a few in the house. I want to try this idea though!

OH MY… thanks to this post I now want to renovate my entire house and get into some serious organization mode! Where to start… where to start!
i’ll definitely be following with interest. I am working (always am) on organizing our home. But I have made a few steps forward over the holidays that have me feeling like I might actually be able to do this!
