I rarely buy salad dressing. Usually I just make a balsamic dressing of some sorts. But for certain kinds like caesar dressing or ranch or Greek I tend to buy them. Until last week.
I decided that with all of the fresh veggies I had in the fridge, I would make salads for supper. I love a great salad, and really, what makes up a great salad varies each time. But having a yummy dressing is always important.
Since I didn’t have any dressing in the fridge (this is an issue when you rarely buy pre-made, it’s not something you can just grab and use on a whim) so I decided to try and make my own Ranch style dressing. It ended up being easy and a keeper.
Ranch Style Salad Dressing
Ingredients:
- 1/3 cup sour cream or mayo
- 2/3 cup buttermilk (or, as I did, 2/3 cups regular milk with 1 tbsp lemon juice)
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp garlic salt (or garlic powder)
- ground black pepper
- Chopped chives (optional)
- Combine sour cream and milk until well mixed. Add seasonings until taste is to your liking. If using garlic salt, use a gentle hand so the saltiness doesn’t over power. Add onion powder 1/4 tsp at a time if you want more seasoning.
Serve over your favourite salad and enjoy!
