Man. This is why I suck at SEO. My title doesn’t tell you anything about what this post is actually about but I thought I was being clever 😉
Anyway, the point of this post is because I am watching all of my Facebook friends enjoy the rewards that the summer/early fall harvest has to bring and is saving this goodness by canning.
So, basically:
TELL ME ABOUT CANNING!
I always thought it was something difficult to do, mostly because I worry that if I do it wrong, what if the food goes bad? That would make me so upset.
So, canners, tell me – what book should I get? What website should I browse? What post should I be reading to learn more?
If I could can tomatoes and peaches and salsa and jam. Oh my.
Please. Share your wisdom.

Mrs. Wannacan
I recommend ‘Food in Jars’ by Marisa McClellan, ‘We Sure Can!’ by Sarah B. Hood & ‘Well Preserved’ by Mary Anne Dragan.
A great aggregator site for lots of canning inspiration is Punk Domestics. I’ve been canning for a few years now and I’ve had things go wrong. I’m happy to answer some questions – feel free to email me.

I like Food in Jars too, especially because the quantities are manageable (i.e. you don’t need to do a bushel of anything at a time). She also has a web-site that I use pretty extensively. I also have a book called Canning for a New Generation that I like. Some of my favourite recipes (salsa when you have time to peel the tomatoes!) and peach jalapeno are from on-line sources, like Chatelaine. I love love love canning – have fun!
