I am really happy to be sharing information about The RBC Believe in Kids Pledge.
What is the RBC pledge?
Philanthropy in companies isn’t new, but what’s exciting about RBC’s commitment isn’t only the amount of financial commitment they are making, but the way they are promoting the program.
RBC has created a series of videos with children and youth who have benefitted first hand from the programs supported by Believe in Kids Pledge. These are stories about homework clubs, sports, mental health assistance and believing that everyone has access to care and assistance when they need it.
I was asked to share with you, information about the program, and a video that struck a chord with me in particular.
You can see all of the videos on YouTube and while I love programs that focus on education or sports for kids (something I’ve written about frequently on this blog) the one that especially stuck with me was Jacob’s story.
Jacob eloquently speaks of his struggles with mental health, how he was feeling and the hope that he discovered thanks to programs at the IWK Health Centre.
But I could have been Jacob. In some ways, I was. I’ve written briefly before about my own struggles with General Anxiety Disorder [link] and seeking help and how it sneaks up on me when I least expect it, even today. But being in my thirties and working to feel better is a lot different than when I was younger. And youth mental illness is something that we all need to stand up and take note of. As a parent, this is important.
Funding these programs is needed to ensure that our children and youth are able to access the care and support that they need. Jacob was brave to share his story.
RBC’s Believe in Kids Pledge is a monumental contribution in the areas of health, education and the entire well being of children and youth as a whole.
Take a few minutes to check out the videos and find out more about the initiative.
What area do you think more funding should be supporting? Which cause do you feel especially connected to?

Thank you so much for sharing my story. I hope many people relate to my struggles and are able to gain the insight and willpower to reach out for support. I also hope that many others will start to support mental heath so kids like myself can receive quality care.
