I was reluctant to leave PEI. For us, the vacation out East means there’s just the four of us, great food, fun family times, quiet times for everyone and more. It’s hard not to idealize everything about it. Plus, this year we traveled later than usual and realize that school (and back to work for Andy) is just around the corner.
However, there’s something magical about coming home. I instantly feel relaxed at home and guaranteed tonight will be the best night of sleep I have had in weeks, even though the cottage was completely comfortable.
The first thing I did was check my garden. It’s still alive! The herbs are flourishing and the carrots look ready, although the cucumbers have no flowers yet but I’m not sure when they are even supposed to grow (can you tell this isn’t my thing?).
The kids wanted to introduce their new stuffies to their other toys, then got distracted when they realized they had a new Wii game before we left. So that’s been keeping them busy. Andy and I are mostly stunned at how clean we left the house, which meant that after we unpacked everything, things were looking pretty good.
The long day is starting to catch up to me but my heart is overflowing with memories of our trip and the happiness that being home brings me. If nothing else, our time together always serves as a reminder for what’s important in our lives – no matter how busy we all get with work and school, that the four of us are at the core of it all – and together, we make a home.
Of note: I have TWO fantastic giveaways happening on the blog right now and they aren’t the last you’ll see over the next few weeks! Be sure to check them out on the giveaway page!
