November is an interesting month for me. November comes fresh off the heels of Thanksgiving and Halloween (both of which I host in my family, and both of which I enjoy hosting). It’s also a few months into the school year by the time November rolls around so we really have a feel for that’s happening there.
It’s also birthday month in our family. I have a niece, a nephew and my own son with birthdays in November. My guy’s birthday is mid-month, and we now use that, along with Remembrance Day, as our guide to decorating for Christmas.
Once his birthday is over, I flip gears. I become a holiday elf. You’ll notice this blog suddenly has a lot of recipes for Christmas, advent activities, stories about traditions and fun. I love it, I really do.
But I’m not there yet. It’s coming. I feel the urge to research holiday gift lists (yes, I’ve started shopping) and schedule trips to see decorated trees. However, I can wait. For the next two weeks, I’m in transition. Holiday-free, focused on my son’s birthday and getting the house (and our plans) in order before the 6 weeks of holiday madness and fun begins.
It’s a wonderful time of year for me. I fully recognize how quickly this month goes, and that’s okay. I’m ready. I’m excited. November was once one of my least favourite months of the year, but I have grown to appreciate it. It’s December’s quieter, less exciting cousin who just wants to fit in and provide some good times.
I’m with you November. Let’s do this.
