If you have been following me on social media you know about Wine Friday posts on Twitter or Instagram. Wine Friday started over a year ago when I noticed that we tended to have the same Friday night plans all the time. My husband and I would put the kids to bed and have some wine, chat about our week and watch TV or, now that the kids are older, we would enjoy our wine while the kids watched a movie and after they went to bed flip through Netflix or our PVR. These calm, quiet evenings became tradition.
Essentially, Wine Fridays have become sacred. It’s a chance for Andy and I to reconnect and visit, wind down, and it’s the furthest time from Monday morning when the hustle and bustle begins again.
I also tend to keep a bag of chips in the house for Wine Friday. I’ve lamented on social media before at times when I didn’t have any in the pantry. For whatever reason, I adore salt and vinegar chips with or after wine. I have no idea what the connection is, but those are my go-to chips. A while ago I also noticed I was getting into the habit of having a bowl of chips when my favourite television shows were on. Arrow on Wednesday nights was especially a chip night.
When Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi and Miss Vickie’s wanted to send me a package of wine and chip pairings to try, it was one of those emails that I had to read twice. Two of my favourite things in one gift?! Sign me up!
Turns out, my chip and television obsession is not very uncommon. In an IPSOS survey, 50% of Canadian eat potato chips while watching TV. When Andy watches TV with me (most of my shows aren’t joint shows. Raise your hand if you know what I mean), that makes our household 100% when it comes to TV watching, chip eating.
Wine Friday is a tradition that continues and I’m happy that we’ve established this time. Our weekdays tend to be hectic and we don’t always pour ourselves a glass, but we do look forward to a slightly chilled white or a delicious red on Friday nights.
Want to have your own wine and chip pairing? Here’s what Miss Vickie’s and Woodbridge recommends:
Cabernet Sauvignon + Original Recipe
Pinot Grigio + Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar
Sauvignon Blanc + Lime & Black Pepper
Merlot + Balsamic Vinegar & Sweet Onion
What one do you think you’d like best?
When in doubt, do as I do and pair the Sea Salt & Malt Vinegar with whichever wine you like! Cheers!
Please drink responsibly. And eat chips responsibly. No one wants a sore tongue after too many salt and vinegar chips!
Disclosure: I received compensation AND WINE AND CHIPS for this post. All opinions are my own. Happy Wine Friday!
